It’s that time again, a day after release and I post pictures from Secret Wars House of M #3.

Well, Secret Wars: House of M is not exactly what I want from HoM tho, I can found some…fun and cuteness.
This is awesome! And I agree, it’s not exactly what I want either, but it’s still got so much I do want that I’m fine with it.
Secret Wars House of M #2 Thoughts
No pictures this time. This won’t be very long, because I’m in a bit of a state of depression over things unrelated to Secret Wars House of M or Marvel.
There’s a lot of good, fun humor in the issue, keeping with the more lighthearted tone. The book is doing quite a lot to establish the Magnus family as dictatorial, as we see not just with reeducation centers, but with Wanda allowing to have the laws everyone is expected to follow flouted for the sake of her sons.
She has the motherly protector thing going, powerful and raging at every step, but there is the air of “the law doesn’t apply to us” that brings a double edged sword. It can be construed as Wanda placing love for her children above the law, which you expect from a doting mother, but it can also be seen as thinking the only thing that matters is getting her way. Whether it’s good or bad really depends on your own interpretation; I currently choose the loving mother angle.
Lorna had the best representation of the whole family in this issue. As a Lorna fan who’s seen her ignored and blown off for so long, I absolutely appreciate seeing her granted such a showing. She’s there to protect her father, and she shows some savvy to tactics – not enough to get to her father before the arrow hits him, but enough to know something was amiss and the cyborgs were far too easy.
I think Magneto had a pretty good showing too. The introductory pages demonstrate that he has no worthy adversaries, which sets up that his underestimating the human resistance when they burst in isn’t OOC stupidity, just Magneto not accounting for every potential variable like he should.
The character I’m most unsure about characterization-wise is Pietro. I didn’t say this last time, but I’ve been assuming Pietro joining forces with Namor isn’t an actual attempt to overthrow his father, but rather an attempt to help his father. Magneto clamors for a worthy challenge, there isn’t really a big threat for him other than Namor, and Pietro goading Namor into attacking gives Magneto the perfect justification to defeat Namor and take over Atlantis. What looks at first like backstabbing may in actual fact be a deception meant to benefit Magneto and Genosha.
Keep in mind, at least from what we’ve seen, that Pietro doesn’t know about the human resistance or the arrow that disabled Magneto’s powers. For all Pietro knows, Namor and his army would be going up against a fully powered Magneto and his Genosha.
All in all, this was a great issue, definitely worth picking up and reading.

Bigger version of THIS, which was a response to speedmagick‘s post here
I love Lorna being all “pfftbhbh hair in face.”

For a special someone who hasn’t had the best of days, and due to an ocean separating us, and unable to deliver a much needed sugar rush, instead I offer a cupcake with extended!Maximoff sprinkles.
Delicious cupcake, we all must eat.

Secret Wars House of M #1 Thoughts
Hi everyone! It’s time for me to give my thoughts on Secret Wars House of M #1. I’ll say before the jump that I was really happy to see House of M highlighted on the Marvel digital comics storefront in such a prominent fashion.
SPOILERS to follow.
I LOVED this issue.
I loved mom bear Wanda trying to rein her boys in, then taking off to give them a stern talking-to. Quite frankly, I’ve never been all that interested in Wiccan or Speed, but this setup actually makes me interested in seeing what happens next with them.

I loved flippant fun-poking Pietro speeding all over the place, seeming to make absolutely no attempt to cover up that he has some scheme going on.
I loved Ms. Responsible Lorna trying to make sure everything stays level and serious and all issues are accounted for.
I’m probably in the minority on this, but Lorna and Wanda vividly showing off morning crankiness is something I didn’t know I wanted to see until now. The art does a great job of making them look beautiful yet messy and worn out after having just woken up.
And yes, I’ve decided this is now a meme.

By the way, entirely brand new and awesome House of M dress for Lorna, prime for cosplay.

Are people tired of me gushing? Okay, then I’ll move on.
I was extremely happy to see so much Lorna here. Until we saw the cover for HoM #3, I honestly thought we’d barely see her or not at all. The amount of use for her in the first issue is far more than I expected given precedent for the past 6 years of excluding her from her family, and it makes me so happy to see things going well for her given all of that. I actually like what I’ve read here a lot more than what I’ve read in the Magneto solo so far.
The issue starts off with Magneto reminiscing on past victories, surprised he’s still alive to see the future he wanted to create, and considering how he’s no longer a warrior. I think this is great necessary build-up to get across why a man who conquered the world might have trouble going up against Namor and a human resistance in the near future: his warrior ways have gotten rusty.
The big battle itself was interesting and splashy. As much as I on a personal level would’ve preferred more Magnus family action, I realize the battles are absolutely crucial for the larger audience and for the overall narrative of getting across the stakes. I like how the Sentinels have Magneto helmets on them, that’s a nice touch of kingdom symbolism.
Reading the entire issue unfolding, you get a sense there are so many moving parts all contributing to an end game whole. To be honest, I think most people would mistake what they’re seeing here as wild disconnected storyline branching, but taking a real look shows it’s all part of the same big story. Pietro put the news on specifically for Wanda, we know Lorna’s going to meet up with the human resistance at some point, and Magneto is intriguingly dismissive of concerns about Pietro’s behavior.
So yeah, I’m really looking forward to House of M #2, and it’s going to be a tough act to follow for Magneto #21.
