Literally the only place that Wanda is treated well is in the merchandise game, and we still get shit like this:

where the fuck did this statue even come from?

I don’t know about you guys, but I see women sit around in thongs with their clothes pressed over the fronts of their bodies all the time!

I mean, I see it in porn, but still! ALL THE TIME!

It’s not even supposed to be her cape, either. According to the item description, it’s Vision’s.

I don’t normally pursue these kinds of interpretations, but it feels like there’s something to be said about “ownership” there. Wanda, completely naked except for a little piece of cloth for her to wear her relationship to Vision for all to see. How often do you see a male character or a character clearly meant to be perceived as male wear his girlfriend’s or wife’s clothes?

I’ve been busy. Haven’t been able to post some stuff because of more pressing matters. Now that I have time, it’s time for me to post something I’ve had on my mind for days.

Brevoort and Remender conducted this conference call on Monday. I didn’t read it. Based on the actions I’ve seen them…

What breaks my heart is I have been a fan of the Twins for decades, and Marvel shows blatant disrespect to the spirit of these characters over and over by writing Pietro out and everything Bendis did. But it was always fixable, redeemable. But now they are messing with the fundamentals. Their core. Change the context and meaning of every interaction they have ever had. The Twins had a retcon to their parentage, it was changed within five years because no one liked it! The magneto thing worked because it lasted 30 years! How is one failed story arc and one established parentage a case of “new parents every week”? How does one even jump to that conclusion? You,

brevoortformspring

are talking out your ass agin, which explains all the shit. And this has nothing to do with the movies? Right. Because having connected covers of all the Marvel teams heading to the cinema is in no way showing a connection to the films. Right. Right.

The thing is, I’ve seen companies pursue this kind of behavior repeatedly, and it never works out well for them.

Brevoort appears to have a lot of faulty assumptions in his head. Some of his ploys have worked only because it appears to take longer for issues to reach critical mass among comic book fans.

From what I’ve seen of him to date, I’m under the impression he operates on the following expectations. First, he thinks fandom and the way it operates hasn’t significantly changed since when he was younger and could count himself as just another fan. Second, he thinks outdated business tactics are still feasible, and there aren’t fans that are able to see through them and call them out for what they are. Third, he has the belief that readership is so low and post-film interest is so high that this scandal will just drive more people to read the comics.

He’s missing a lot of crucial details, and I’m not explicitly highlighting what they are because I know what he’d do with the information. If he came across as someone that meant well and would try to do right by fans, the story would be different. But when it’s someone that seems to have a goal of fulfilling his own interests at the expense of fans and the source material, I’m content to let those problems come to their inevitable conclusion.

I’ve been busy. Haven’t been able to post some stuff because of more pressing matters. Now that I have time, it’s time for me to post something I’ve had on my mind for days.

Brevoort and Remender conducted this conference call on Monday. I didn’t read it. Based on the actions I’ve seen them take and the statements they’ve made, nothing they do is really worth reading. However, I did skim. And this is what I saw out of Brevoort’s mouth.

“That’s something that Marvel creators have done virtually since the beginning. This is not different from that, whether you’re talking about Sabretooth being in a new role or all the stuff with the High Evolutionary or who Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver’s parents are this week.”

I really wish I could do an underline. Note that italicized part within the bolded text.

This is a deliberate insult aimed at both fans and the source material itself. Brevoort is not stupid here. He knew exactly how to phrase his answer to make it sound like it’s a common, everyday occurrence to see Wanda and Pietro get some stupid retcon of their parentage. He went out of his way to make it sound like this kind of change happens to the twins all the time.

Newsflash for anyone not in the know: forcing this kind of retcon, where Wanda and Pietro are now suddenly no longer Magneto’s kids, is not common. They were confirmed as Magneto’s kids for over 30 years. They’ve done countless storylines to build upon and reinforce this element of their characters.

Saying Wanda and Pietro’s parents change every week is like saying the way Batman’s parents died changes every week. It’s like saying how Superman came to Earth changes every week. It’s saying one of the core, critical, defining elements of who these characters are and who they’ve become is completely worthless.

It’s destroying the characters from the inside.

There’s a small number of fans for these characters that don’t like Wanda and Pietro being part of the family. I would be an asshole if I did not state and admit that, and say their voices aren’t valid. However. Just because THOSE fans care more about other aspects of the characters does not mean those aspects are worthless. By taking away that aspect of who Wanda and Pietro are, they are no longer the same characters anymore. They are permanently changed. They are redefined entirely, and lose all semblance of the heart and soul that made so many people enjoy them.

Besides, if we’re being really, truly honest about the complaints that made these fans feel the forced retcon is a good thing, then here it is: nearly all the reasons I see amount to “too much of the twins’ characters are defined by being Magneto’s kids.” That’s all. And you know what? In THAT sense, they just might be right. Maybe they do need more attention paid to who they are separate from their relationships to their father.

But that doesn’t turn “excise them from the family entirely” into the right answer, any more than if you claimed the answer to problems with race relations in the workplace is to not hire black people.

That’s my spiel. I hope this opens some eyes, because while I never really cared about Wanda and Pietro when I was young, I DO care about developing an interest in them as their own characters through their relationships with their half-sister Lorna. And until they’re returned to being Magneto’s kids again, that’s never going to happen for me.

I once went to a concert with a friend (I don’t remember the band, she dragged me along) when I was 16. They were starting a wall of death and this guy who was flirting with me decides it would be funny to pull my top down, exposing my breasts, then throw me in the middle of this wall of death right as it’s about to meet. When I stumble in the middle and hit the wall someone screamed “STOP! EXPOSED GIRL!” and I thought they were all going to oggle at me. Instead, one guy quickly helped me cover up, three more helped me to my feet, and another asked who did that. When I pointed out the guy, two of them looked at him, me, each other, then nodded and punched the guy in the face before forcing him into the wall that was about to form again.

Metal men are gentlemenly as shit.

This fucking this^^^

I’ve always loved this.

I went to my first concert a few months ago and there were these really tall men with black vest tops and tattoos and piercings surrounding us screaming loudly when the music started playing, but then we realised this kid in the crowd had lost his mum so they tried to comfort him and when he started crying they asked him his name and he shakily sobbed “Eliot” at which point they lifted him in the air onto the shoulder’s and shouted at the top of their lungs “ELIOT’S MUM, ELIOT IS LOOKING FOR YOU. EXCUSE ME HAS ANYONE SEEN ELIOT’S MUM!!!” at which point Eliot started giggling between sobs until he finally found his mum while in the air.

Seriously, I have felt safer in groups of death metal dudes than in the group of the preppiest preps that ever prepped.

Metal guys are one big family. Simple as that.

I remember seeing this for the first time like a year ago and not once have I seen it and not reblogged it because this is just amazing.

My old coworker was one of those guys. Big, bearded, played in a hardcore metal band. One day another coworker’s laptop was stolen from the breakroom, so metal-head bought him a brand new one.

That guy was really a huge teddy bear.

Dude I don’t think anyone realizes how amazing metal guys are. I was in a circle pit and got down and everyone stepped on me and this huge talk dude helped me up and stayed with me the rest of his night and kept guys away from me
