House of M #1 REVIEW: 8.5/10! http://comicsrecap.com/2015/08/30/house-of-m-1-review-8-510-secrets-in-the-house-of-pietro-lorna-and-wanda/
What if mutants ruled Earth, and humans were treated as inferior? Magneto is king of this alternate Earth. I like the abrasive relationship between Quicksilver and Polaris. Plus, Black Cat and Misty Knight as heroes on the run!
House of M #2 is out this Wednesday, September 2!

I love Lorna being all “pfftbhbh hair in face.”

For a special someone who hasn’t had the best of days, and due to an ocean separating us, and unable to deliver a much needed sugar rush, instead I offer a cupcake with extended!Maximoff sprinkles.
Delicious cupcake, we all must eat.

House of M
This week saw the release of “House of M”
#1, the latest “Secret Wars” series using a classic Marvel event as a
jumping-off point. This summer is also the 10th anniversary of the original
event, which in many ways kicked off an era of stories at Marvel that
stretched for several years. As someone who was a major part of Marvel
editorial back then, what are your thoughts now on the impact that
original story had?Alonso: I think that “House of M” really strikes a chord with
fans because it’s such a great fantasy – what if the villain of our
series has effectively won, and what if our most hated and feared
characters suddenly had all the power they’ve always lacked? You get
this rich, opulent world, with weird-looking inhabitants all flourishing
in ways that they’d never be able to in the main timeline. They’re all
happy. Plus, we get access to Magneto and his kids, and the complicated
dynamic within that family. With the “Secret Wars,”
title we’re giving fans an opportunity to see what this world looks
like years into Magneto’s reign, what this tranquility and happiness has
done to House Magnus, the mutant citizens, and what this rule has meant
to the human citizens of this domain as well.Given that, what do you like about what writer Dennis Hopeless and artist Marco Failla are bringing to this new series?
Alonso: Dennis has a real knack for capturing the voices of
our more kinetic and feisty characters, and the main cast of this “House
of M” series really reflects that: Hawkeye, Felicia Hardy, Misty
Knight. Dennis’ fast-paced, quippy dialogue really shines with these
characters, and with our royal family, too.Pietro, especially – and Marco has really picked up on the snide
sarcasm inherent in that character. Pietro’s face is so, well, punchable.
And he’s really capturing the nuances of the interactions between
Pietro, Lorna and Wanda, which is absolutely essential to this series.Source: Comic Book Resource
Calling Magneto the “villain of our series” seems awkward to me given he’s actually a grey character, but it’s not a huge deal to me.
Hawkeye, Felicia Hardy and Misty Knight being called the main cast of the book concerns me a bit. That’s like having a book titled Iron Man and saying “Oh, by the way, the main cast is Magneto and Wolverine.” I think I know what he really means here, that those three are the human resistance element that needs to be followed, but to say they’re the main cast on a book titled House of M is irksome. It’s actually the first thing that’s made me understand why some reviewers feel House of M #1 isn’t making good on HoM’s potential.
That said, I did enjoy HoM #1 and look forward to the next issue.
It’s been a day, so here’s some images/panels from House of M #1.
I especially think cosplayers will like the new House of M costume for Lorna.
Secret Wars House of M #1 Thoughts
Hi everyone! It’s time for me to give my thoughts on Secret Wars House of M #1. I’ll say before the jump that I was really happy to see House of M highlighted on the Marvel digital comics storefront in such a prominent fashion.
SPOILERS to follow.
I LOVED this issue.
I loved mom bear Wanda trying to rein her boys in, then taking off to give them a stern talking-to. Quite frankly, I’ve never been all that interested in Wiccan or Speed, but this setup actually makes me interested in seeing what happens next with them.

I loved flippant fun-poking Pietro speeding all over the place, seeming to make absolutely no attempt to cover up that he has some scheme going on.
I loved Ms. Responsible Lorna trying to make sure everything stays level and serious and all issues are accounted for.
I’m probably in the minority on this, but Lorna and Wanda vividly showing off morning crankiness is something I didn’t know I wanted to see until now. The art does a great job of making them look beautiful yet messy and worn out after having just woken up.
And yes, I’ve decided this is now a meme.

By the way, entirely brand new and awesome House of M dress for Lorna, prime for cosplay.

Are people tired of me gushing? Okay, then I’ll move on.
I was extremely happy to see so much Lorna here. Until we saw the cover for HoM #3, I honestly thought we’d barely see her or not at all. The amount of use for her in the first issue is far more than I expected given precedent for the past 6 years of excluding her from her family, and it makes me so happy to see things going well for her given all of that. I actually like what I’ve read here a lot more than what I’ve read in the Magneto solo so far.
The issue starts off with Magneto reminiscing on past victories, surprised he’s still alive to see the future he wanted to create, and considering how he’s no longer a warrior. I think this is great necessary build-up to get across why a man who conquered the world might have trouble going up against Namor and a human resistance in the near future: his warrior ways have gotten rusty.
The big battle itself was interesting and splashy. As much as I on a personal level would’ve preferred more Magnus family action, I realize the battles are absolutely crucial for the larger audience and for the overall narrative of getting across the stakes. I like how the Sentinels have Magneto helmets on them, that’s a nice touch of kingdom symbolism.
Reading the entire issue unfolding, you get a sense there are so many moving parts all contributing to an end game whole. To be honest, I think most people would mistake what they’re seeing here as wild disconnected storyline branching, but taking a real look shows it’s all part of the same big story. Pietro put the news on specifically for Wanda, we know Lorna’s going to meet up with the human resistance at some point, and Magneto is intriguingly dismissive of concerns about Pietro’s behavior.
So yeah, I’m really looking forward to House of M #2, and it’s going to be a tough act to follow for Magneto #21.
I’m just not understanding what the heck was done to Pietro’s personality. It’s like this Pietro came right from the “X-Men Evolution” cartoon.
On another topic, Pietro swimming to Atlantis with no scuba gear is quite a feat. I mean, apart from being able to hold his breath while moving super fast, he still has to contend with possible nitrogen narcosis and decompression sickness…what I’m saying is: why couldn’t they just draw Pietro in a submarine? That’s a bit more believable than him just swimming to Atlantis.
Because reasons.
I wouldn’t have thought of that, which is why I’m always glad to see fans of other characters point out issues they spot that I missed.

Seeing all of the siblings together like this makes me happy 🙂
