Was killing some time at work in the sketchbook, and this came out. The first sketch is a roster for the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters if Xavier had managed to convince Magneto that Xavier’s way was better for the mutants. In my mind, those are the teachers and students who’d make up the first class at Xavier’s.

The second spun almost inevitably from the first, when I noticed that Jean, Wanda and a very young Lorna were the only girls of the Student Body.

I’ll probably expand on this further.

Done with Tombo markers and coloured pencils.

PREVIEW: ALL-NEW X-FACTOR #14

RELEASE DATE: September 17th

• Quicksilver is reunited with his daughter, Luna…

• …But THE INHUMANS are not too happy about it!

• PLUS: could Warlock make a move on Danger?

I am ABSOLUTELY looking forward to this issue! It’s rare for me to say I can’t wait for something to come out, but that’s the case here.

Polaris & the Scarlet Witch by Mike Mayhew || (Axis #1 Midtown Comics Exclusive Variant Edition)

As much as I wish this was Polaris/Lorna Dane, sadly it’s Enchantress. Nothing against Enchantress and anyone that likes her, I’m sure she’s a great character in her own right, but this really should be Lorna here.

The fact Lorna’s not in Axis itself alone is already an issue. She was a key figure in Genosha’s history, and her surviving the genocide on there means she SHOULD be playing a major role in Axis. That Lorna’s being kept segregated solely to All-New X-Factor when she should be heavily involved in what’s going on at Genosha is just deplorable. This cover is an extension of that problem.

Using Enchantress during Axis: good. Using Polaris during Axis: would be good too. Treating Enchantress like Polaris and refusing to use Polaris: bad.

soaps:

The newer Lara isn’t all that mopey but I’d have loved fewer “I’m so scared” monologues vs. Lara just constantly wrecking shit over there on Evil Man Island. Really fun game!

Bonus doodle: re-draw of the cover from Tomb Raider II, where I’ve whacked out her proportions more than the original.

Hey there,Did you do the cover to ANXF #14?

indeed i have. it just hasn’t been shown off yet i think

Some spoilers on the cover apparently.

I have trouble believing the reason is spoilers. The book had big spoilers on the covers of both ANXF #11 and ANXF #13, so they aren’t exactly afraid to shy away from spoiler reveals on covers.

Though if Marvel’s excuse is that the cover has spoilers, it just means that either their choice of cover was a terrible choice, or it should be a variant cover. There’s really no good reason for Marvel withholding the cover for this long, a week and a half away from the issue and counting. I could understand waiting until two weeks away in hopes the cover’s release would do more via timing to generate buzz that turns into sales, but I think we’re past that point.

because the book double ships, depending on how quickly jared and i can get the covers done, one cover goes up during solicits, and the other goes up when the book is previewed, which won’t be for another week or so.

i was just giving you guys a tease since nothing had been shown yet.

Sorry if it sounded in any way like I was judging you, not my intent! You’re just giving us what you’re able to give, and I greatly appreciate that.

What I’m questioning up there is Marvel’s decision to not have the cover out yet in cases like this one. I now understand what’s going on better thanks to your explanation, but it’s disappointing Marvel operates that way when I know there’s a ton of interest in Lorna and Wanda as sisters that would lead to ANXF #14 selling a heck of a lot more if fans had enough lead time to find out and place orders.

Thanks again for the little teaser, it’s at least something. 🙂
