Listen everyone!!! Look what I’ve found:

As I suspected some anti-feminism and racist asshole took this picture about feminism and turned it into some racist bullshit.

That woman on these pictures only contributed to the “Why I need feminism” signs and now we have this picture of her with a racist sign.

I hope everyone will excuse me for cutting out everyone else in this string, but I want to make the correction more prominent. If I could, I would make the correction the FIRST image one sees for the reblog, but I don’t see a way to do that.

The #scarletwitch and #polaris stopped by the @midtowncomics booth! ❤️💋💚 #NYCC #NYCC14

The Wanda cosplayer’s costume is absolutely amazing, but I also like the expressions on both their faces. I may be projecting here, but I get this impression of “Uhh… Marvel? Can we see this for the sisters some day?”

Since I’m already reblogging, I’m gonna take this chance to namedrop All-New X-Factor #14, which Marvel didn’t promote, but it provided us with Lorna and Wanda spending time together in a “girls’ night out” kind of way. Anyone looking probably won’t find it on store shelves, but you can at least buy it digitally here.

OPEN REQUESTS FOR ANXF ART

In light of recent events of the cancellation of All New X-Factor, the only thing I can think to do is art for charity. I’m trying to get back into drawings, so I’m opening up a request box for All New X-Factor themed art and sketches. Anything safe for work.

The rules are, the art is free, just consider buying an issue of All new X-Factor. And maybe join the saveanxf page on facebook.

My deviantart for more examples of my work. Thank you, and have a nice day 🙂

What’s going on?

Peter David (writer of All New X-Factor) announced that the series will be cancelled at issue #20 because sales are low. (source) There are a great deal of people who adore this comic, and we want to share that awesome with everyone else. This is a campaign to lift that cancellation and try to renew the series.

What is being done?

If you care about All New X-Factor as much as we do, we urge you to take action. We are planning on setting up times to attempt to get #SaveANXF trending on Twitter to introduce the series to a wider audience. There are 6 issues left until the series is scheduled to come to an end. If we can raise sales and get Marvel’s attention, perhaps we can save it – or at least increase the possibility of the characters sticking around. We would also like to propose an “All New X-Factor Week” at some point in the near future; participation is encouraged to further spread the word.

How can I help?

If you can think of anything else, let us know! We want as many people to be involved as possible. Follow us on twitter: @saveanxf. Spread the news. Reblog/retweet. Most importantly, buy All New X-Factor.

Thank you for your support!

This is such a huge bummer. Peter David’s previous run on X-Factor was one of the best Marvel titles of the last decade. And while All-New X-Factor hadn’t quite reached the heights of the last series, it clearly was building towards something great.

I’d been keeping track of the sales through Comichron and they’ve been pretty bad for most of the run. The latest sales records for August shows that ANXF only sold 21,352 copies. This also doesn’t bode well for Captain MarvelAll-New Ghost Rider, Secret Avengers, All-New InvadersElektra, and All-New Ultimates as they all sell less copies.

I think part of the problem why this book wasn’t successful was due to two reasons. First of all, it’s an X-book that doesn’t feature either Wolverine, Cyclops, or Storm. In fact the most popular character in X-Factor is Gambit, and his last series was cancelled not too long ago as was Astonishing X-Men that was the only X-Men title that featured him heavily. A team featuring Polaris, Quicksilver, Warlock, Cypher, and Danger wasn’t going to be the most popular.

The other big issue was the art. Carmine Di Giandomenico is not a very well known artist and his work is extremely stylized. It grew on me over time, but I can see why many readers would be turned off.

I was hoping the Axis tie-in issues would have helped the sales but clearly they weren’t enough.

Peter David wrote on his blog:

Also for some reason Bleeding Cool is associating it with the fact that Quicksilver will be returning to the Avengers and that’s why the book is going away. No, it’s because not enough people are buying it. Which is exactly the reason they cancelled “Gambit” as well, so it’ll probably be a long time before he gets to star in another book.

All I did was write a book that got tons of positive write-ups. Which I guess is enough to encourage people to buy it when it comes out in trades, oblivious to the fact that books get cancelled when you do that. Whatever.

The Serval Industries concept could have had so much mileage. It breaks my heart that this book is getting the boot. I’m sure Gambit and Polaris will show up up in various X-books. Gambit would fit in perfectly in Amazing X-Men to pal around with Nightcrawler and Colossus, or maybe he could be a teacher at the Jean Grey School in Spider-Man and the X-Men. Polaris would fit in perfectly on the all female squad in X-Men, along with her former teammate Monet. Cypher and Warlock are always likely to show up any time there is a New Mutants revival. Quicksilver has the Avengers. Poor Danger is likely to be the one left behind..

I doubt Peter David will return to the X-Factor title again, which is the biggest crime. I’m sure he’ll continue to write random books. Spider-Man 2099 is a blast and I’m interested to see how he writes Deadpool in Deadpool’s Art of War. He continues to write the Marvel adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower, and his upcoming Phantom mini-series on Hermes Press looks very impressive. Unless Marvel and David want to revive the government sponsored team or the private detective incarnation, this might be the last time we see a David/X-Factor title.

I have been actually buying this comic to avoid this eventuality, and how it is happening and I am really really sad.

Save X-Factor. Let Peter David stay in the playground he’s spent 23 years building.

First: I have to call BS on the “A team featuring Polaris, Quicksilver, Warlock, Cypher, and Danger wasn’t going to be the most popular” line. This is implying the book’s only value came from Gambit, and that all the other characters on it couldn’t have sold the book without him around.

In truth, any collection of characters can sell a book, it all depends on what you do with them and how well word spreads of what you do with them. Just about all the characters we know and love today didn’t start out popular. I mean hell, Deadpool was created in 1991, and Emma Frost didn’t become well-known beyond hardcore fans until this past decade. Today we’d say both those characters are popular.

How well a book sells involves many, many factors. It’s complex. But if I had to pick just one here, it would be Marvel not promoting this book. Look at All-New X-Factor #14. People had been waiting YEARS to finally see Lorna and Wanda spend time together as sisters. Marvel didn’t promote it. They didn’t even release its cover until a week before release. And here’s the result: ANXF #14’s sales are going to be equal or lower than they should’ve been. I know this because I know Marvel screwing that issue over meant no issues on the shelves for walk-ins. I’ve seen it myself, and talked to others who saw it too.

So if you’re going to blame anything, don’t blame “not having popular enough characters.” Blame Marvel not giving it the support it actually needed (or needs). Saying it’s the fault of the characters is insulting, especially when we’ve seen countless times where “nobodies” rocketed into stardom status because Marvel gave an interesting, well-written book enough support for that character to become a star. Wolverine included.

Second: I’m very glad to see these initiatives being planned out. I don’t know how effective it will be, but no matter what happens or what can happen, everyone can at least say they made sure to let everyone know about the book and what it means to them.

Besides Wanda and Lorna, any other characters you’re a huge fan of? And are there any characters you dislike?

I don’t really have any other characters I’m a huge fan of. The closest is Captain America, but I don’t have enough interest in him for him to get me to buy stuff because of him or read any comics he’s on. Well, aside from the Captain America video game by Sega. Which I think could’ve been better, but wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be. Polaris/Lorna has piqued my interest in her family, though, so while I’m not keeping abreast of everything Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver or Magneto, I’m at least more informed. But I mostly blame that on Marvel not letting Lorna do much with her family or be part of the wider Marvel universe these past five years. I’m buying the Magneto solo at the moment and it’s been a great read.

Truth be told, until I discovered Lorna and DC Comics royally screwed up Harley Quinn, I always considered DC to be the better company between DC and Marvel. Between Harley Quinn (as she used to be), Superman, Sandman, Watchmen and several other things, DC seemed like it had the more interesting properties. It’s only been in recent years that I’ve started to see what Marvel could offer.

I don’t really have any Marvel characters I dislike. There are two video game characters, but that’s it, for specific reasons. A lot of people like to blame the character for actions they take and say the character sucks. I think that’s really the wrong approach. Whatever a character says or does, ultimately it’s on the head of the writer/editor/director and how well they can capture the character’s potential or how much or little respect they have for that character.

Especially with Marvel, I’ve seen a lot of complaints about both Lorna and Wanda that more or less amount to “I don’t like what one or several writers did with the character, but I don’t want to blame the writer so I’m going to say the character herself sucks and shouldn’t be used.” It’s disappointing because these are perfectly good characters with lots of potential if placed in the right hands.
