Magneto isn’t there because he’s busy telling kids to get off his lawn.

Real serious question here. I already called my shop and cancelled ALL my @marvel comics. All of them. I have no intention of supporting this company. What is the consensus amongst the fans? I intend to boycott the films, obviously, since this all stems from Marvel/Disney synergy. But what about the comics? I don’t want that company to get ANY of my scarce money. The editors and writers responsible for sure, but as a whole, I just hate that company now. I wish I never read comics. I wish I never saw the xmas cartoon as a child. I wish I grew up playing with Barbies and watching Blossom and Full House instead. I wish that this company was never in a position to hurt me like this. Part of me knows there are writers who just work there, who deserve sales. @jasonaaron @kellysued @kierongillen @cullenbunn @gregpakpix @jasonlatour there are many who I adore, and would hate to drop because of Disney being a whore, but I feel like I have little choice in the matter.
So what is everyone else going? I already gave up on DC. I’m ready to walk away from Marvel, and there are only a handful of independents that even remotely keep me interested.
I sort of feel like a big part of my life is over. And I don’t like the idea of life anymore. #scarletwitch #quicksilver #magneto #wandamaximoff #pietromaximoff #marvel #marvelusedtomatter #marvelusedtomeansomething #boycottingthemovies #boycottmarvel
I’m presently reading anything that’s Lorna-specific, because I’m a Lorna fan first and foremost and because Marvel currently has yet to attempt to ruin her.
However, the primary Wanda fan tumblr I’m following suggested standing by and supporting the X-Men comics, on the grounds that Marvel is blatantly trying to diminish the X-Men books due to the corporate slapfest between Disney and Fox. I was ready to refuse to buy all X-Men comics but stuff tied to Lorna, but now I’m weighing whether or not to keep the X-Men comics as a whole as an exception. I personally haven’t seen them doing anything stupid or awful, after all.
Whether you do that or something else is entirely up to you, though, obviously.
If it counts for anything, the process I took when Capcom and Square-Enix acted in similarly insulting ways was to gradually swear off one piece at a time with each bad thing they did, until eventually I swore off each company almost entirely and set specific conditions that had to be met before I would buy from them again (e.g. Jill and Claire getting repeatedly treated poorly and excluded in the Resident Evil franchise, especially being left out of RE6, means I’m only going to buy Resident Evil games if they star Jill and/or Claire until they’re the stars in a main numbered game again).
Anyway, all that said, just remember that you can still be a fan and do and enjoy fan things without giving Disney your money. 🙂 I’ve loved your cosplays pairing Lorna and Wanda together, they’re why I followed you in the first place, and I hope you don’t let Disney and Marvel rob the world of that.

All-New X-Factor Week: Day 1 & Day 2 — Favorite Female Character (Lorna Dane) and Favorite Male Character (Pietro Maximoff) (photo credits: row 1, row 2, row 3)
Pietro, for once in his life, gets character growth. Sure he’s always going to be a smug, arrogant ass but in this series, his complexity as a character shows, like hints of protectiveness towards his half-sister and the tremendous amount of love he has for his daughter. Pietro does have emotions and feelings, and he admits his faults and wrongdoings in the past, showing he’s matured so much more than anyone’s willing to give him credit for.
Lorna, much like her half-brother, gets to break away from the mold writers have set for her in this series. Previously, her roles in storylines fell between two points on the spectrum: mentally unstable girl with no control over her powers or Alex Summers’ girlfriend. Thankfully, Lorna is anything but a damsel-in-distress. She is the leader of the X-Factor team and usually does a damn good job of it, progressively getting along with her half-brother and managing the rest of the motley crew. Fully in control and with a brand new attitude, Lorna commands the series unapologetically, and I couldn’t love her more.
this is like a poster for a quirky comedy about two siblings
you know i actually like to think that magneto, regardless, would be a feminist/social justice activist cause that makes me RLY HAPPY INSIDE but another part of me is like “if they’re not mutants he proooobably wouldn’t give a shit about them” and then another part of me is like “but it would also be totally within his character to seek out and destroy oppression wherever he sees it”
if both charles and erik were ladies it’d just make everything better cause charles would be better at relating to/not patronizing or controlling raven, and erik would just be thE BIGGEST MOST ANGRY FEMINIST plus charles would be hella cute and cuddly and erik would be one of those ladies that’s like “if you punched me i would say thank you”
“if Magneto was a girl he’d be a Feminist”
Hello? Polaris anyone!?
Damn right.
It’s been pointed out by Lorna fans better than me that Polaris was created and introduced as a very strong female character, stronger than Jean Grey at the time. There were a lot of elements to her original introduction and use that could have developed into her becoming something of a feminist icon.
Unfortunately, she got dismantled entirely during the long Claremont run. It’s only in the past decade and a half that she’s REALLY started to show her stuff. The thanks goes to a mix of Peter David picking up the pieces of her in the early 90s, and later Milligan and Austen making great use of her, particularly in relation to Genosha and Magneto.
Well I don’t like the use of the phrase “Strong Female character” but she was introduced as a Feminist she said she didn’t want to be defined by her relationship and she felt like a woman for that there’s more but if I’m honest Claremont (who masks himself as a feminist yet fridged Jean Grey and sidelined Lorna) buried a lot of that and basically did what the character stood against and defined her as Havok’s girlfriend rather than the Daughter of Magneto standing up for a different but very closely related cause it wasn’t until they reretconned her into Magneto’s daughter that she began being her own character again, so hey I like a lot of what Austen did in his time at X-men introducing Azazel and fixing Lorna!
I would say PAD is the best writer when it comes to Lorna I’ve yet to read a story of her by him and think “Ugh this guy doesn’t get the character”, can’t comment on Milligan.
Basically avoid stories that involve Havok because they reduce her to a doormat for him because he’s a characterless bore who needs to be made interesting by showing how much Lorna *Loves him* ugh.
Also all this talk of Marvel retconning Magneto’s kids to being his kids and not again really screws with my mind they just are his kids Marvel, THEY JUST ARE.
I think the Lorna and Alex relationship is salvageable… BUT, not without a writer really really really bending over backwards to not screw it up, and with a wait of 10 years or more. We saw how quickly Lorna started to get dismantled again when she got forced into following Alex into space. It proves writers need a heck of a lot more about Lorna see and known before they can write her as her own character while in relationship.
Also, I disagree when it comes to Peter David and writing Lorna. I think he really screwed up with her from ANXF #4-6. Note: I think his depiction of Lorna and his writing of ANXF as a whole have vastly improved from ANXF #7 onward. I also think he did an excellent job with Lorna in X-Factor #243 (her origin story issue) and All-New X-Factor #14 (sister time with Wanda issue). Still, as great as those issues were and as well as he’s treating her now, I have to be honest and say that I think ANXF #4-6 was a bad patch.
I’m definitely looking forward to Bunn’s portrayal of Lorna. I’ve also considered buying at least a few issues of something Peter David’s putting out as thanks for treating Lorna well overall and really advancing her character-wise, but it’s tricky to find something since I don’t want to give Disney and Marvel money for stuff that isn’t X-Men. I might just donate money directly to Peter David instead, though I know he’d much prefer that I actually read something he wrote in exchange for that money.
No, absolutely not! There’s no reason to boycott any X-Men comic; on the contrary, we should keep buying them so Marvel knows we care about those characters and they aren’t allowed to sideline them just because Disney says so!
My advice is that those buying All-New X-Factor and Magneto continue to do so. Not buying them is like telling Marvel we support their decision to reshape the comics to better fit their cinematic universe, not buying them is telling Marvel they’re correct in not putting any publicity in those comics, therefore dooming them to cancellation.
Very good points. When Lorna got left out of Axis, and the covers went out of their way to make Enchantress look like Lorna while doing so, I decided I would still support the X-Men comics and buy ANXF and Magneto. I was set to refrain from everything except what includes Lorna (which isn’t a big change since I’ve only been reading ANXF and Magneto so far anyway), but I may go back and remain willing to buy X-Men comics still after all after this post.
It’s been extremely obvious Disney and Marvel are trying to diminish both Fantastic Four and the X-Men purely due to film rights issues. Fantastic Four comic killed off, the X-Men had absolutely no individual panel at SDCC while Spider-Verse got one (Spider-Verse has fewer comics), the X-Men franchise is always screwed over and the Avengers franchise always benefits from every crossover event, and I’m sure there’s more I’m not thinking of right now.
wait a fucking minute. if Wanda cursed her whole bloodline. does it mean Luna is in excruciating pain right now too?!? BECASUSE NO
This might be part of why Brevoort went out of his way to say he thought the spell was geographically localized.

i’m sorry but how does simon not count if vision’s personality comes from simon therefore making simon another father for tommy and billy.
and please don’t derail this saying about how simon is abusive or whatever Vision is just as abusive at least simon has the fact he wasn’t used as a stand in for POC going for him.
Just adding this note to say that I don’t know anything when it comes to Vision/Simon, I’m just reblogging for the family and the reiteration that Wanda and Pietro are big parts of it. 🙂

Polaris by Stephanie Hans
I always liked this one. Has a real sense of Pestilence to it with a touch of vampire.
That’s what he always does – makes jokes about the fans’ concerns.
Okay, I see why he can’t give us answers yet; he wants people to keep buying Axis and buy Uncanny Avengers to know what will happen*. But there are better ways to handle this than just indirectly saying “f*ck you”. We all know these changes are about MCU synergy, there’s no point in denying that anymore. If Brevoort and the others need to hide this like a dirty secret, well, it tells you all you need to know about how “story comes first”…
*I won’t be buying Axis and Uncanny Avengers (or any other Avengers comics, for that matter, nor Inhuman). If you want to know what happens but would rather not waste your money on the further assassination of your favorite characters, don’t worry, Tumblr is sure to keep you updated on this mess.
Yarrrr, pirate the comics. Watch it go to hell without paying. Yarrrd.
Also, he seems to think I’m mad at him (punch in the mouth post) because of WHAT he said, not HOW he said it. That man’s perspective is highly selective.
Am I mad at what he is saying/the upcoming story? Yeah!
Is his dismissive condescending sarcastic patronizing comments towards concerned fans the reason I said he is inches away from being punched in the mouth? Bingo! He replies to trolls with gifs. We get that. It’s what he do. But when fans come to him with real concerns, even if he can’t tell us WHAT is going on, he can be proactive. Tell people Lorna is going over to Bunn’s Magneto? People were asking about her. It’s no secret. Why answer “stay tuned” in a sing-songy “I don’t care that you’re upset, keep giving us money” tones.
Even with the Lady Thor reveal he taunted the trolls but addressed serious concerns with some measure of assurance and respect.
His lack of respect for us is disgusting. And since he is the editor of Axis, he really does have his hands in this one. He actually is accountable. He is being a jerk, however, which is not helping his case to string us along to get this story of his told.
I haven’t been watching Brevoort’s formspring directly, but in regards to the Lorna over on Bunn part, Brevoort’s made no secret that he has no respect whatsoever for Lorna. If someone asked him where Lorna would be, and all he said was “stay tuned,” then he’s doing that because he’s not in charge of the X-books and he doesn’t want people to know she’s going to appear there.
That’s my takeaway based on what I’ve seen of him, anyway.
