Brevoort not just reading this, but actually posting it to show he read it, gives me a lot more respect for him than I was feeling up to this point.
I’ll be honest, it’s hard for me to figure out precisely where things stand with Brevoort on this specific issue. I don’t think Brevoort made the call. I think if it really was all his call, and he really always wanted to do this from the get-go, then all the Avengers-driven material that had the Magnus family sans Lorna on prominent display would never have happened. Children’s Crusade wouldn’t have happened, and there would not have been big moments in Avengers vs X-Men.
I also think that if he didn’t care about the Magnus family at all, then he would not have ignored Lorna being part of it in everything he oversaw, and he wouldn’t have tried to make excuses for why she shouldn’t be part of the family. It would be easy for me to spin him as not appreciating the family due to not appreciating Lorna, but the truth is that I think he just doesn’t see how good it is for all three of Magneto’s kids to be his kids, and I think he thinks Lorna “tarnishes” the family when she actually helps make it all the more exciting.
What’s hard for me to suss out here is whether retconning Wanda and Pietro out of the family was orders from above or a conscious choice he made himself. I can see Brevoort not wanting to do the retcon, but not fighting it because he doesn’t have enough pull with anyone to risk it. However, I can also see him deciding on this retcon not because he was told to do it, but because something in the corporate culture he’s part of made him think the change would look good to people above him.
I’ve been oscillating between the two, and most of the time I assume the latter. I’d like to assume the former, because I feel bad about expecting the worst out of people, but it’s hard for me to assume the former after some of the things he’s said in the past.
Overall, I really do hope this retcon is undone quickly (within a month or two), and we have all three of Magneto’s kids confirmed as his kids and doing stuff together.
Last note of my own. Looking at it purely as a story turn and character development, I didn’t mind Alex’s anti-mutant speech. Alex has a history of not appreciating his own heritage (e.g. when he left the X-Men for a “normal, civilian life” in the late 60s/early 70s), and it’s really not that farfetched for someone of a minority to not recognize or value his own minority’s culture. This is why I didn’t really go into outrage mode or start dropping films, games or comics over it. It only started to look like an issue to me in conjunction with many other elements that, when taken together, look nothing like unfortunate accidents and more like a deliberate trend for the worse.

He has actually attempted it to close it repeatedly but fails to get to the funds to actually move the prisoners. Senate has refused multiple times since his call to action in 2008- which surprisingly, enough was a very unpopular decision. Along with that, no country has taken responsibility of the prisoners and most have refused to accept them.
You understand that Obama can’t just go lock the doors and tell all of the prisoners to come live with him or something, right? You understand that Presidential power is actually very limited in domestic matters and Guantanamo Bay is a domestic matter.

The sole short-term positive I could see in Wanda and Pietro supposedly not being Magneto’s kids anymore is if we get to see all four of them torn to shreds over supposedly not being family anymore, expressing a deep sense of loss over a good thing they hadn’t realized they took for granted until it was too late.
That’s the ONLY way I can see this retcon being anywhere close to a good thing: if it’s a launchpad for the family getting closer than ever before.

If I recall correctly, Twitter was justified in suspending that account. They were threatening to doxx Iggy Azalea, and doxxing is a line that should never be crossed. It’s what I and many other people have been constantly trying to prevent when it comes to the GamerGate situation, and how several women (including Felicia Day) have been doxxed over ludicrous conspiracy theories that just so happen to all center around women.
It’s wrong in all circumstances, but even if we claimed there are cases where it’s okay, allowing it to happen to one person opens the door to allowing it to happen to other people. “You let these guys doxx Iggy Azalea, we should be allowed to doxx this feminist game developer we hate.”
Anything you want to do in regards to Iggy Azalea can be done without doxxing, threats or harassment.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Gamergate and where we’re going from here. A lot of you may have seen the Patreon I started this week. I’d like to talk to you about my reasoning in starting that, why the Patreon helps everyone, and what I think should happen next.
I want people to know, this nightmare is not over for the women targeted. It’s worse than it’s ever been. I woke up yesterday to Gamergate writing rape fiction about Zoe and publishing it on Kindle. I had a stalker post pictures of my house, its layout, my neighborhood, my husband and my pets this week. Gamergaters have been threatening knock on my door and intimidate me in person.
The truth is, guns have come to paradise. Videogames now have their own Tea Party, and it is Gamergate. We cannot reason with them. Just like the Obama birthers demanding proof that he’s an American citizen, nothing will reach these people.
However, I’ve come to believe our response to Gamergate is outdated.
When I went on my whirlwind press tour of major media outlets this year, I had a single mission – to help people understand Gamergate is a misogynistic movement. That mission was wildly successful, and I believe it helped turn the tide of the war. Look at the Gamergate Wikipedia page which was updated this week – and reflects the common understanding about the misogyny of the movement. Even Wikipedia’s Jimmy Wales, someone not known for being reactionary, released a very sober condemnation of the movement.
Reasonable people understand Gamergate is an innately sexist movement. That mission is over.
So, it’s worth thinking about Gamergate’s current psychological motivations. We’re seen harassing industry women turned into a game for these people. They thrive on attention. They feel like victims of a world gone madly politically correct, and they believe anything is justified in taking us down. To use Anita Sarkeesian’s phrase, feminists have become “Folk Demons,” to these people – we’re monsters for them to hunt. They will continue to spend all day, every day, thinking of ways to harass us.
It sucks beyond belief that this will continue to happen to me, Zoe, Randi and Anita. It’s so depressing, I can barely process it. I’m sure this next week will have new, horrific events for the four of us. But, the truth is – anyone on the fence has already left the movement. The rest can’t be shamed, persuaded or reached – they’re enjoying the game they’re playing. This is a game to them, and they only win when they hurt us.
I believe, the best way to proceed from here is to keep doing what upset them so much in the first place – to talk about inequality in the game industry. To keep talking about the sexist hiring practices, lack of representation, hostile work conditions women face and lack of promotion for women and PoC at AAA studios.
I believe it’s also imperative to make Gamergaters that break laws face consequences in our justice system. If you see Gamergaters doing things that law enforcement can prosecute, feel free to send it to our new harassment officer. If it seems actionable, will make sure people that can do something about it see it.
For me, personally, I intend to keep lessening the amount I’m posting and writing about Gamergate. Everyone knows they are very sexist, very unhealthy individuals. Thanks to my Patreon, GSXs full time staffer will document this behavior for law enforcement leaving me free to speak out for change in the industry and make inclusive games.
My suggestion to people rightly outraged about this movement, is to ask yourself what you currently want to accomplish. It’s my suggestion that it would be most helpful to shift the conversation back to representation in the industry. I think the gains in raising awareness of Gamergate have diminished, while the threat of giving the lunatic fringe the attention they desire has stayed the same.
To be blunt, I’m not sure endlessly talking about Gamergate does anything anymore.

Magneto is once again listed as wanda’s and pietro’s father
Hopefully this means they’ll confirm Wanda and Pietro are still Magneto’s kids soon. But until it actually happens, I’m going to assume this is just a mix of covering their tracks and hoping the change will get people to stop complaining long enough for them to get away with the retcon.
The situation isn’t changed until Wanda and Pietro are re-confirmed as Magneto’s kids in the comics themselves. Wiki entries can be tweaked then reverted, and statements in press releases and interviews can be made and then backed out on.
