All New X-factor costume for Gambit in Marvel Heroes slated for release in April some time. It was hinted we’d see another costume sometime here in February.
YEEEEESSSS FINALLY YESS I AM OMG. YES I AM SO HAPPY IT LOOKS SO HOT AND DKSOENSKSJDKSKS
Pietro is being added as a Team Up player (NPC because his powers don’t translate to playable) i’m hoping he gets an xfactor suit!
I’d rather see Polaris playable. The Marvel Heroes guys keep saying they want to add her and there’s a high demand, but it never actually happens.
she will be a skin for Magneto eventually. I have been waiting for a while, but Magneto is low priority for skins. He only JUST got his black suit. -_-
A skin is okay, but it’s nowhere near the same thing. They can have both Wolverine and X-23, and they can have both Jean Grey and Emma Frost, so why the hell can’t Polaris be her own character?
She has TONS of potential skins, too. Multiple costume iterations. X-Factor, All-New X-Factor, her original, Exiles version, Starjammers, Pestilence, post-Genosha, Malice, the alternate universe Alex was in briefly, her Bridezilla look when Alex left her at the altar, she has an incredible wealth of her own unique skins possible.
A mere skin of Magneto is not going to get me to play Marvel Heroes. An actual Polaris would, and for once I’d actually throw my money at one of these microtransactions. Playable Lorna is why I got Lego Marvel Super Heroes, which in turn is why I’ve also bought several other Lego games; because it made me see how great the Lego games actually are. The Lego version Lorna was technically a skin because they used the same powers, but at least on the roster of characters to select, she was treated as distinct.
It has to do with the actual writing of the game code and how the powers work. Wolverine and X-23 do not actually play the same in the game. They have different strengths and stats. Same with Emma and Jean. They actually play nothing alike. Wiccan got a skin for Wanda. Spider-Gwen is getting a skin for Spider-man. Because their powers are being played as the same in the game. Polaris is being billed to be on par with Erik in the game. I can live with a skin.
But here’s the question: why? Why do they have to play the same, and even if they do play the same, why does playing the same mean Lorna can’t be listed as her own character like she was for Lego Marvel Super Heroes?
This is why I pointed out Wolverine and X-23, and Jean Grey and Emma Frost. A lot of people operate under this assumption that magnetic manipulation is somehow so limited, just one character covers the power in its entirety, and that logic leads them to believe that Magneto is the only full-fledged character a game can have using that power.
It’s a false assumption. If you really need two different characters to have different abilities or skills, you can absolutely do that with Polaris and Magneto. Maybe they have roughly equal Energy and Intelligence, but while Magneto has more Durability, Polaris has more Speed. Looking at Magneto’s abilities for the game, Polaris can perhaps have abilities that do things like create a fluid metallic armor for added protection (she’s done this in the comics before; this is similar to Magneto’s Electromagnetic Field ability but can focus on physical attacks rather than projectiles), or use her abilities to pick up on electromagnetic waves to pick up transmissions that reveal secrets (perhaps for a future patch that adds that functionality) or result in more loot, or exposing weaknesses in metallic enemies to make them more susceptible to damage. Even when it comes to basic manipulation of metal objects, I notice Magneto has an emphasis on “razor-sharp shrapnel” for most of his abilities, mostly stuff that could kill a person via penetration. Polaris’ emphasis could be on blunt force.
I see a lot of people make assumptions about whether or not something is viable that aren’t true. I’ve seen plenty of cases where people assume excellent characters or franchises can’t be used or won’t garner any interest because they’re looking with a very narrow perspective of what’s possible. Like for example, the all-female Ghostbusters film. There are so many people who think that’s going to fail, because they see it as nothing but a gimmick. And maybe it will fail, we won’t know until it actually hits theaters. But in the meantime, they immediately assume it’s going to be bad, because they don’t see the potential of the idea. They just see their assumptions, which in turn is why we have almost no female protagonists in major video games anymore. The assumption that games starring women won’t sell.
