I’m starting to think it might be better to share news from Bleeding Cool rather than places like CBR whenever possible. Bleeding Cool actually cares enough about these franchises and characters to raise questions and make pertinent observations about both good AND bad corporate behavior.

CBR would never jeopardize their good standing with Marvel by being too critical of the company’s business practices. They rely too much on exclusive interviews and receiving early promotional content.

Sad thing is they had made so much space for younger characters be removing X-men and FF from this picture. And sure, they piut few – America, Kamala, Sam, Miles, Daisy, Skaar, but overall it’s a ton of old, often horribly obscure “classic” characters and nothing else. One Young Avenger, no Runaways (old or new version), no one from Avengers Academy or the Initiative, even Old Loki instead of Kid or Teen Loki. Meanwhile Ego the Living Fucking Planet is here. Because we sure need more of him, right? He has such a dedicated fandom!

And by the way, look, they have literally one gay character in the entire picture.

Fuck, there are few characters even I don’t recognize, like whoever is that guy with a spear between Strange and Bullseye & Vision. Would putting Karolina Dean, Julie Power, Hulkling or Striker be such a problem? You kicked out so many characters to spite Fox, and what you put in their place? Same old shit!

Part of me wants to believe the choices were intentional as an attempt to get the higher-ups to stop being stupid, but realistically, I think Marvel just doesn’t know what they’re doing.

It’s possible the selections were purely scattershot, lazily taking whatever can be found and using it, but it’s also possible they deliberately picked obscure characters because they’re getting cocky. “If we wanted, we could make any character into an A-lister! We’re running things here, the fans should just shut up and accept whatever we say.”

I’m not saying that attitude is definite, only that it’s possible. I think the forced retcon on Wanda and Pietro, treating the X-Men franchise poorly, moving to replace the X-Men with Inhumans, all of that feeds into a strong chance they have huge egos about their control over their IPs.

Yep, CBR’s really more of just another mouthpiece for the big two companies than an actual site anymore. It’s even spilled into their forums and what discussions they will and won’t allow. If the reaction to bad behavior is tame enough it can be ignored, it’s allowed, but if there’s a serious risk to sales or reputation for bad actors on the line, they step in.

They get exclusive interviews and the like, but they sacrificed any integrity they had as a separate entity in their own right to secure that exclusive content.

When you do shit like this I get angry. If you tell me they are not family then go f*** yourselves but don’t do shit like this.

I hope a good writer comes along one day and says:
F*** this shit, I’ll make them a family again.

There are a couple things I can say about this.

One is that the artist said at some point that the comparison wasn’t intentional, that it’s simply a common motif. I also know Bunn likes writing all the characters and their relationships when he can.

BUT! I’m pretty sure most people at Marvel want the family back together. Regardless of why and how the cover came about, I know artists and writers at Marvel are really at the mercy of people above them. A writer might really want to write the whole family together, only for a Disney or Marvel executive to prevent it because of their corporate slapfest with Fox.

That’s the main reason, I think, why we don’t have a Magnus family focused book coming out of Marvel right now (Secret Wars House of M doesn’t count due to its brevity and nature), and why they forced the retcon. It’s not that a writer doesn’t want them together, it’s that the higher-ups care more about money and their egos than what fans want or what’s actually good for Marvel and stories.

Magneto and his family could have their own show with how large a family they are.

The Maximoffs

Starring

Magnus Maximoff/Erik Lehnsherr/Max Eisenhardt

Wanda Maximoff

Pietro Maximoff

Lorna Dane

Vision

William “Billy” Kaplan

Thomas “Tommy” Shepherd

and Ultron

Recurring Cast and New Season Main Characters: Hank Pym, The Avengers, Jocasta, Victor Mancha, Hulkling, Mephisto– This cast is too freakin’ large!

(Guest appearances from the X-Men?)

I’ve felt for about a year now that a Magnus family TV show has a lot of amazing potential. However, my view was a show a bit closer to Smallville style, where Wanda and Pietro are seniors in high school or freshmen in college while Lorna’s a freshman in high school. They try to live normal lives by day, deal with injustices against mutants by night. Some future season involves the secret getting out and the family going on the run, while the next season is the family setting up and running Genosha.

That approach kinda prevents use of Billy and Tommy, though.

If things could work out between Fox and Marvel some day (it’d likely only happen after Marvel starts treating the X-Men franchise better on their end), your idea sounds like it could be an almost Game of Thrones style setup. Political machinations and power struggles weaved with super powers.

lorna dane?

i’m ashamed to say i don’t know who this is and the only thing i can think of are those really good shortbread cookies (lorna doones) i’m sO SORRY :((

I’m not sure what this is about, but butting in just to give brief info on Lorna. 🙂 She’s one of Magneto’s daughters, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver’s half-sister (comics recently forced a retcon on Wanda and Pietro’s parentage in the comics, but I reject it; Marvel’s clearly only doing it over a film rights spat with Fox). She’s also been Havok’s girlfriend, but I think most depictions of it have been poor.

Lorna is a master of magnetism like her father, and she was introduced way back in 1968 and had a much bigger role back then as the second female X-Men member to join the team after Jean Grey. IMO, her top recent 616 storylines have been House of M, dealing with her trauma from the Genoshan genocide, her origin story told in X-Factor #243 in 2012, and sister time spent with Wanda in All-New X-Factor #14 last year. She’s currently on an arc of the Magneto solo book, starting with Magneto #18 last month and possibly ending with Magneto #20.

Sorry if this information isn’t wanted, but I wanted to share anyway. 🙂

I don’t think there is enough GREEN HAIR appreciation here on tumblr, so here you are, some pictures of MY green hair, to celebrate the greatest color in the world. GREEN!

Reblogging my green hair for salarta 🙂 I might have lived as Polaris for a year. Oops.

These all look amazing! There’s a real variety here too in styles. Bottom middle looks stylish and classy (aside from the sweater), third row far right and far left look mix of rock and punk, and several very cool casual moments. Thanks for reblogging. 🙂
