People don’t understand just how manufactured and exploitative that industry is. Imagine what child actors have to go through, but they have even less free time, aren’t independent, and basically property. The moment they speak out about abuse or mismanagement they’re replaced, and their lives are basically over.
It doesn’t help that a lot of fans are just being willfully ignorant
There are numerous videos of members in various idol groups fainting onstage during live performances and a good percentage of the comments say things like “she so dedicated she’s trying to pull through even though she’s tired!” “he cares for the fans so much he neglected his body!” “this shows how dedicated he is!” “They need to start taking care of themselves!”
Like…if so many of them are in poor health, it’s probably not of their own volition.
or even worse, they actively berate or attack them for under performing or slipping up. I’ve seen K-pop fans squee about their favorite star putting on crocodile tears for some photoshoot or movie and then turn verbally abusive or get genuinely uncomfortable when footage is leaked of said star being actually frustrated or upset like a normal person in real life.
They know it’s all manufactured garbage, they know they’re supporting a poisonous culture and industry, but they keep up their slavish devotion to it because they’re addicted to the escapism.

Marvel has even less excuse when considering that a) there’s a popular idea of her on TV, and b) this month, I mean this month we’re on right now, October 2018, is her 50th anniversary.
If Marvel can give Multiple Man, Longshot, Lockjaw, Shatterstar, all sorts of characters a solo, mini or oneshot despite there being nothing out there to “justify” it, then Marvel has no acceptable excuse for not doing anything with Lorna under current circumstances.
Further, Marvel doing nothing right now means that if circumstances change, Marvel still has no excuse. Marvel doesn’t get to completely ignore Lorna’s value at the height of her popularity and then use “she’s not popular enough” as an excuse if things take a downturn.

Unions are why you have 5 day, 40 hour full-time work weeks. Unions are why they have to pay you in actual dollars instead of “company credits” that you can only spend at the company-owned stores. Unions are why there are fucking fire exits at your place of work. Unions are why it’s not okay for your supermarket ground beef to be any percentage human.
You think your company pays you out of the goodness of their hearts? Or even out of “market pressure?” The “job market” is a myth perpetuated by the capitalists. Corporations would pay you nothing if they could get away with it. And you argue “oh, but if they paid me nothing I’d just go to another one.” Wrong. Because to maximize profits, they all want to pay you nothing. Corporations exist to maximize profits while reducing risk for investors. It’s part of their entire function to find ways to cut costs as much as possible, and that includes finding ways to pay you nothing.
Unions are your defense against that. You think all a union does is strike? If you pay union dues, a lot of that is spent on lobbyists in various governments reminding your lawmakers that you have rights as a living human being that a corporation should not be able to stomp all over. Unions hire lawyers so that if you’re fired for bullshit reasons, the union can stand up for you against your boss. They’re called unions because workers are uniting to pool resources so that they can stand up to these corporate overlords with more money than God. Unions exist because you might not have the words, resources, or time to fight workplace injustices all by yourself. That’s the whole fucking point.
And if a business shuts down because a union is striking, it’s because the business was abusing people and didn’t deserve to be in business anyway. Don’t make excuses for the corporations. They already have trillions of dollars and a couple million lawyers to do that for themselves. They don’t need your help.
Anti-union propaganda is designed by companies to sour people to unions with bullshit in hopes the company can get away with shitty treatment. Never buy into it.
