If Naomi Hunter wanted to fake her own death, honestly Otacon is the perfect agent to sell that. If she “committed suicide” dramatically in front of just Snake he would go back and say “yeah, Naomi’s definitely dead, and only I saw it happen” and people might suspect he’s covering for her, he’s done that before – but everyone knows Otacon wears his heart on his sleeve so if she can get him so that he’s bawling his eyes out “NAYOMEEEEE IS DEAAADDD” everyone is just like “shit dude, she must really be dead” and no one thinks to check the body in Shadow Moses until it’s way too late and she’s already stolen a snowmobile, changed her name, and hopped a plane to some small carribbean island where she can finally be left alone
Yep! I’m still going with this as what happened. Naomi’s pretty good at tricking and manipulating people, and I don’t see why that would’ve stopped at her supposedly self-imposed “death” in Shadow Moses of all places.
What I’ve heard about the new issue of Blue is the nicer side of things I expected might happen.
Nobody’s complained about Lorna being treated like a trophy object for Magneto and Havok to fight over, so I presume it didn’t happen and the cover thankfully doesn’t reflect the story. That was on the worse side of things I was preparing for.
What I’ve read people saying is that basically Lorna argues with Emma a bit, and Lorna’s memories are used by Emma to cover up that he’s still inverted.
Other people I’ve seen so far are saying it was either good or passable. I’m gonna need to see pages and panels first before I can actually remark.
There’s a history of other readers and fans not picking up on problems that I pick up on, or else not openly admitting they’re problems until it’s too late. When Lorna was treated poorly in ANXF for #4-6 to build up Gambit, I was the person complaining most vocally until things changed for the better with #7. When Blue had Lorna introduced only as “Daughter of Magneto,” or had her surprised by an attack on the X-Men HQ just so Magneto could “correct” her, I was the only person who said anything about it. Same for the issues with the Malice costume use during the Mojo arc.
I don’t entirely trust that there isn’t something wrong with Blue #28 that other people didn’t catch, or aren’t admitting is a problem. The scenes of Emma using Lorna’s memories might include something insulting, or deliberately try to set Lorna up for hooking up with Havok again soon or not being allowed to pursue relationships outside him. Just as a couple hypothetical examples.
For that reason, I need to see actual pages and panels before I can settle on something.
What I can say definitively, though, is that I hope there’s a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, looooooooooooooong time Havok is kept away from Lorna now that this arc is finally over. Lorna shouldn’t have been forced back into stories where she interacts with or talks about Havok this soon, and almost every scene where that happened during Blue proved it. As I’ve said many times, Lorna now needs a fresh 10 years away from Havok starting with this issue.
