I fiiiiiiiiiiiinally decided to change my blog style! It’s long overdue.
The background is a commission I got from soap-committee back in 2014, when my goal was to promote All-New X-Factor #14 because Marvel was refusing to do any promotion for it. I might change the background later, but right now it’s the image I like most for a background.
X-Men Blue #31
Look the mystery I most want to solve in this comic is why Lorna is wearing black leather pants, a button down, gloves, a sweater, a jacket and gloves IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER IN SAN FRANCISCO
@cwicseolfor said: Best guess: she was originally drawn sexified but the artist acquired some sense/ had some sense knocked into them and then drew her as covered up as they could get her without a parka, but didn’t want to hide the pants.
I can see this happening, actually. Lorna’s been more sexualized art-wise on the books Bunn’s writing than on previous writers. Whether that’s an effect of what artists Marvel pairs with Bunn or what Bunn writes in his scripts, I don’t know. But I can definitely imagine a more sexualized take planned, only for already existing complaints about Lorna’s treatment on Blue (particularly around Havok) to make them rethink those plans.
I saw today’s issue of X-Men Blue had more Havok fanwankery in it, so that’s “nice.”
And by “nice,” I mean how things ended with Havok’s dedicated multi-issue arc (after Havok already robbed Lorna of her return last year) was plenty. And already more than Marvel’s ever given Lorna. Adding this “epilogue” on top of it is just more of the bullshit where Marvel puts Havok on a pedestal while treating Lorna like she’s a lesser supporting character for his stories.
So, Marvel being as shitty to Lorna as they’ve been for decades, because they figure they can get away with it with her.
I’m looking forward to X-Men Blue ending. It’ll be an end to stuff like this, and the start of a fresh 10 year countdown of her used nowhere near him.
But yeah. Seriously. Fuck Blue and Havok, and a case of Marvel and people working there once again seeing Lorna rising to the top and responding by kicking her down to boost Havok higher.
@plavapticica said: Sidenote why is Lorna dressed like there’s a cold front coming thru when she’s in San Francisco in the summer and everyone else on the page is wearing shorts? Meaningful, mistake, or do I just underestimate the winds in the Bay Area? (Honestly asking I am sweating in the heat right now and seeing her black leather pants and sweater getup makes me anxious!)
@plavapticica said: I am reading it right now and…yeah. I agree. Also not feeling the Return of Magneto as a Villain shtick.
I’m not that concerned with the casual wear in this case, but will admit it’s over the top.
I’m pretty much in pissed off mode right now, as I realize more and more that it doesn’t matter why Bunn treated her poorly on Blue. It doesn’t matter if it was all his plan or he was following orders. In both scenarios, he has no respect for Lorna. The only difference is whether his lack of respect for her is deeply rooted or it’s from not caring enough about her to resist higher-ups telling him to treat her like shit.
What he did to Lorna is something he would never do to Magneto or one of his own creations. Bunn would never write Magneto acting like a complete dumbass so some other character can make a quip at his expense. He would never have a big return for Magneto twisted into being all about how he can be exploited to “redeem” some other character.
My assessment after today is that Bunn’s use of Polaris on Blue is the second worst treatment Lorna has had in the past 10 years. Scenes like below from space are the only thing I can think of that were worse.
And the only reason they’re worse is because the emphasis was on big strong Havok “rescuing poor little Lorna” as she cries on his shoulder. They share in common that the focus is all about how Lorna can be used to Havok’s benefit and her own ruination.

This is one of those songs, and music groups, that if I ask some random person if they’ve ever heard of it, they’d have absolutely no idea. But their music was excellent.
I first heard this specific song with the Arc the Lad anime, and loved it. Afterward, I went out of my way to get the actual physical disc for this band because it’s not available otherwise (or wasn’t when I got it).
One of the things that made me love the band is the musical collaboration across cultures and languages. It was a mix of American and Japanese musicians. Some songs were English, some Japanese (though the English ones are better known and more used).
This specific song, Happy Tomorrow, is pretty nostalgic to me and uplifting in general. It’s from a time before 9/11, Trump and the current GOP, etc, when brighter futures could be seen that involved humanity coming together.
I sometimes say things one way and they read another way I don’t mean. I’m sorry for any time where that happens. Especially if I’m following you, if something comes off as trying to be insulting or offensive, that’s definitely not how I mean it.
