Magneto 2.0 is bad if it’s used to deny Lorna’s value as her own character; as an AU where Lorna adopts her father’s name, I can see it being fine.
Magnetrix, I think, would be good as a villain name for her, for example if she’s mind-controlled or possessed. Magnetrix sounds much more powerful as a name, and it has none of the heroic associations her regular codename has. It wouldn’t be good if the goal was to replace her regular codename, but it would be good to represent a complete shift in identity away from heroic even if it’s not by her own choice.
Mistress of Magnetism is GOOD. It’s not a replacement name, it’s a title. There is NO REASON to drop that one. It represents what someone as awesome and powerful as Lorna is capable of. It states in no uncertain terms that Lorna is the mistress of her domain, that she’s a force to be reckoned with when she cuts loose on her full potential. Storm has the alias “Mistress of the Elements” for the same reason.
Polaris is her core codename, and I agree it should always remain that way. But these other codenames can be used based on circumstances, and the Mistress of Magnetism part should never be scrapped.
Color me strange, but I do believe we have the makings of a beautiful love story here.
