In 2017, on Tumblr, I created my own idea of a Polaris “soundtrack” for the character. It was largely constructed in chronological order of her life.
Three years have passed. New songs have come out. And this time, I’m far more eager to create a “soundtrack” that’s more about capturing her essence as I see it via the songs I know and like rather than trying to code songs to her life events.
So let’s begin!
Golden – Halestorm
Ignorance – Paramore
Joan of Arc – In This Moment
Going to Hell – Pretty Reckless
Monster – Stitched Up Heart
Vicious – Halestorm
Turn Off the Light – Kim Petras ft Elvira, Mistress of the Dark
Still another; I first heard this as an Automatic Mario video. I never got this and put it on my phone though, so I had a hell of a time finding it again. I’ll need to get it this time.
EDIT: WAIT I HAD THIS ON MY COMPUTER THIS WHOLE GODDAMN TIME AND I FORGOT I HAD IT?! WHAT THE HELL ME?!
Play from the 0:25 mark for the song. This is the only video I’ve been able to find that actually has it. This is “Your Love Song” by Angela Aki.
I got a new phone recently. That means re-adding my music, and finding songs I forgot about. This song is one of them. I always found it very beautiful and haunting, like most of Angela Aki’s songs that she’s best known for. It touches deeply with the sense of loneliness and want.
Since I’m thinking about Angela Aki, it’s also reminding me of Moraru no Soushiki (Funeral of Morality), which is an entirely different focus and tone, more powerful, but just as touching and emotional.
I’ll probably run across more songs as I look through what I’ve listened to.
One of the things that brought me to love Rosa from FF4 as my fave character before I learned of Polaris was Theme of Love. The song technically represents the relationship between Rosa and Cecil, but it always felt like it really represented Rosa and the love, hope and light she brings and inspires.
This is one rendition of the song with lyrics. It was made before the 3DS remake that led to the song being released as Tsukino Akari.
Special music time. Another of the things that I loved about Final Fantasy, its international touches. With these songs, they manage to get very emotional while also using language to show how humanity is universal.
The second language here is Saami, and indigenous language from northern Scandinavia.
So far away from my home, sweet home Day by day, from land to land I roam. Though told by the wind, which way to go. Oh how I long for my home, sweet home.
Boađe ruoktot álo go don dovddat duski Boađe ruoktot álo go don dovddat váivvi du ruoktu vuordádu álo du ruoktu vuordádu álo
Fragrant blossoms, blooming far away Do my folks see them as I did long ago? Are they still joyful, are they young at heart? Will I see them again as I did that day…
(sung simultaneously with 2nd English stanza) Bearaš, ustibat, ruoktu muittut dat eai goassige vajaldahte du
How far I’ve come from my childhood home… There will come a time when my troubles are gone And when I shall not be all alone. Till then, I dream of my home, sweet home.
(sung simultaneously with 3rd English stanza) Meahcci, čázit, albmi eana dat buot vurdet du dat buot vurdet du
