Just a little prelude announcement.

Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the creation of Polaris/Lorna Dane. She was created in October of 1968.

I can already say based on @marvelentertainment‘s history with her that they won’t acknowledge this anniversary. In fact, the way Marvel behaves toward her means it’s more likely they’ll actively keep her off everything they can during this time. They won’t want to give her or Gifted any more of a boost than necessary. This is in addition to Marvel’s general negative attitude toward her.

So why am I saying all this? Cause I want to reiterate: fandom should be prepared to do all the work on celebrating her anniversary. Marvel won’t be offering anything, so it’ll be up to fandom to make it happen.

My current plan is to commission fanart and if I can get into the swing of it, write some fanfic. These are my current ideas, not all of which I’ll necessarily pursue, but which I’ll at least consider and pick a few from.

A couple new art/commission ideas to throw out there that I had this past week.

Valentine’s card

Obviously, this works best for next month. It’s a Valentine’s Day card of Lorna, with green hearts and probably a heart she’s made out of metal stuff (e.g. spoons), and a fun yet corny phrase like “I’m magnetized by you!”

Golden anniversary/birthday

Golden anniversary generally means for marriages, but I’m absolutely okay with fudging that for the idea. This idea works best in October, month of her actual creation.

It would pretty much be Lorna in a “birthday” setting with balloons, wine, cake, etc and a lot of the details in gold. The number 50 would be all over cause it’ll be her 50th anniversary.

Personally, I think the best approach for her would be wearing her original costume. For one, it fits the entire theme of celebrating her creation by bringing back what she wore when created. For another, her original costume had gold details, which would fit the setting perfectly. The second best approach would be an elegant dress of some kind.
