All New X-Factor is being cancelled at issue #20 because of sales being low (x) so we thought we would clear up what that means.
These are the numbers according to comichron.com (they post the figures from Diamond Comics Distributor. These are the guys responsible for putting hard copies in your hands!). Some things to keep in mind while you read ahead:
- These numbers are estimates. Close estimates, but estimates nonetheless. They are quite valid, but do have some of that colloquial wiggle room.
- Reorders, international sales (UK alone adds about 10% to the sales), and digital sales, and most bookstores/newsstands sales ARE NOT COUNTED IN THESE NUMBERS. (x)
For the month of January, issue #1 was ranked the 30th most sold comic, and issue #2 was ranked 57th (x). By February of this year, there were 47,643 copies of All New X-Factor #1. To put that in perspective, “Batman #27” was ranked 1 and sold ~115,492 copes, and "Uncanny X-Men #16" was ranked 17 and sold ~58,676 issues.
By March, the sales of the series were down by about 1.6 times.
In August, All New X-Factor #12 was in 110th place. Numbers for September have not been reported yet.
All New X-Factor #15 is scheduled to come out on October 22nd, so in about three weeks. A goal for issue #15 is to try to stay at the number we are now (so around 21.3k issues) and not dip further. After that, we have 5 more issues to make our statement with. I feel that if we can even begin to pull a steady 5% increase (adding 1,068 comics), we might be able to gain some traction. There might be a spike in issues sold for #17 & #18 because they are tie-ins for the AXIS event, but if we can increase it more from there, that could send a positive message.
Here are some steps you can take to keep this comic going:
- Do you know where your local comic store is? Find out! Remember that Diamond Comics Distributor from earlier? They put out these huge catalogs that consist of comics from every large comics publisher and give you an order form to fill out. Fill out the form saying you want to get All New X-Factor #17 & #18. You can check it so that ANXF will be on your pull-list, so you’ll get the subsequent issues as well! Many local comic stores offer subscription services that give you a discount on titles you add to your pull-list. You could be helping save All New X-Factor AND getting a discount!
- Are you driving by your LCS? Bring your friends and tell them to buy a copy. They will fall in love with the comic, too. Every issue counts!
- Live too far away from a comic store? You can buy the comic digitally from Marvel here. You really want that hard copy in your hands? Mycomicshop has got you covered.
Remember every issue counts.
TL;DR? Just read what’s bolded for the gist of it.

Its already cancelled. It’s done. Over. Despite it sometimes the ONLY title I would buy that week because I knew the “Avengers: 2387458946384 titles could survive without my support that exact week, it didn’t help. I even bought more than one issue. I got my friends into the title because I would never stop talking about it. It didn’t change anything.
This is why I get mad at comics. I get SO MAD that something that isn’t one of the BILLION xmen of avengers team books can’t be kept running even with 20,000 readers.
I guess no one really cares.
Frankly, I blame Marvel for its cancellation. Marvel would LIKE the fans to think it’s their fault, but here’s a little rundown on why I think it’s actually Marvel’s fault.
X-Men: Days of Future Past came out this summer, while Pietro was on ANXF. During that time period, any reasonable company would’ve had him nice and prominent on the cover of a book like ANXF to get people to pick up the book if they had residual interest in the character due to the film. Marvel didn’t do that. If you check, he was on covers BEFORE DoFP, and covers several months AFTER DoFP, but not on any during the important time frame DoFP was in theaters.
Secondly, look what happened with All-New X-Factor #14. Lorna and Wanda spending time together as sisters is a huge deal. It’s something tons of fans have been wanting for a long time. Even if we ignored the interest in Lorna and Wanda as sisters, a character like Wanda appearing on ANXF for a story is still a big deal. Not only did Marvel not promote that issue one bit, but they even withheld the issue’s cover from the public until a week before the issue hit store shelves. The explanation given for this was “If it’s a double shipping month, Marvel only releases the cover of the second issue that month alongside the preview.” I don’t buy this, because Marvel’s shown plenty of willingness to show covers for many other big Marvel events well in advance.
Consider with this what the sales were for ANXF #13 and #14, compared to other double shipping months. All other double shipping months, the second issue sold less than the first issue. Here, even with no promotion by Marvel, ANXF #14 managed to sell more than ANXF #13. If Marvel had actually promoted ANXF #14, imagine how much it would’ve sold, and consequently what all other future issues would’ve sold as a result.
This doesn’t mean lack of promotion by Marvel was the sole cause of low sales. But, I think it was the biggest contributing factor, and if Marvel had just promoted it in cases like Pietro while DoFP was out or ANXF #14, the book would’ve sold enough to keep going. Instead, Marvel decided not to give ANXF the support it needed and deserved when it needed that support most.
