I DESERVE BETTER PROJECT
WHAT?

a project where writers and artists create a complete 21-page comic story about a lady who’s being ill-used in the comic books.

WHY?

to show love and respect to the chosen female character* and display the way she should be treated.

WHEN?

approximately in February and March.

WHO?

anyone who identifies as female or other minor gender. age, occupation and previous participation in FCE matter nothing. writers must know the background of the chosen character.*

HOW?

21 writers and 21 artists will be working on the story. firstly, the story is discussed by all writers (artists can participate too) via skype and then every writer pens a page of the script. artists illustrate the script (a page for everyone) and the story is posted on behalf of femcomics in parts.

WHERE?

femcomics.tumblr.com or #ideservebetter project.

* this time the lady is gonna be Wanda Maximoff.

This is not happening …
It’s just a bad dream.
Tomorrow I will wake up again and there will be a happy big Maximoff family…
This is just a nightmare …

Don’t worry, it’s not happening, because we won’t let it. 🙂 This is a corporate-forced retcon that does not actually represent the way things are. It doesn’t matter how hard they try to ram it down everyone’s throats, if we don’t accept it, then it’s not true. Better yet, as fans we can work with and build up the true, full Magnus family through fanart, fanfiction, fan comics, the works. Disney and Marvel can’t take that away from us, no matter how hard they try.

Erik and Lorna were removed from Pietro and Wanda’s family member lists on their Marvel Wiki pages Wednesday night. /We/ are not the ones jumping the gun here. They changed in the text of their entries that Magneto is their “rumored father” and Magda is still listed as their mother on their genealogy sidebar, but Erik and Lorna are out. Fans are upset. Yes. Very much so. Without reason, sir? No, not quite. This isn’t a matter of “give t time, there is a story” this is a matter of Marvel changing their very wiki entries to reflect the coming status quo. Those wikis are rarely current. To go so far out of the way to change it now is evidence of them trying to pull in movie viewers. Google Quicksilver and Matvel Wiki is in the top three results. Marvel wants movie fans to know the twins are NOT Magneto’s. It’s extremely transparent. So no, we are NOT jumping the gun. But thank you for being patronizing, sir, it’s lovely.

Sorry with my last reblog, just now seeing this post. I understand your sentiment now.

My personal opinion right this second is that Brevoort’s caught between a rock and a hard place. He knows how bad this is, and he knows a reckoning is on the way, so he’s pretty much saying anything and everything he can to get out of it as unscathed as possible.

None of this changes what’s really happening to these characters and the way to go about dealing with it. Empty promises of “let the story unfold first” are just that, empty. This retcon should’ve never been attempted in the first place, no matter where they intend to go with it.

peppermonster:

Yes, let’s talk about the brief (ok, 20-ish years) history where Wanda and Pietro’s father was Whizzer and their mother was Miss America. Let’s talk about all the compelling stories and events that Marvel put out featuring that family dynamic and how it shaped the characters. Let’s talk about all the people who relate to that or are fascinated by that family dynamic. Let’s talk about how that family compelled the characters and their very identities. Go……..

Ok, now that we talked about how absolutely no one cares about the Whizzer or found that family dynamic compelling, let’s talk about the 30 years of Magneto being their father.

Let’s talk about all the stories, comics, and events that revolve around Magneto being the father of the twins. Let’s talk about how compelling and interesting that family’s disorder is. Let’s talk about how those character were shaped by their relationship. Let’s talk about every decision and alliance they have made in the last 30 years have revolved around their family. Let’s talk about House of M, Children’s Crusade, Magneto Not a Hero…let’s talk about how for as long as the target audience of 18-35 year old readers have been alive Magneto has been their father.

Yes, let’s bring up a retcon done 30+ years ago to clean up their convoluted backstory, to try and discredit our objections today. Let’s keep up these false comparisons. Because that is not patronizing and insulting to us.

Yes, let’s.

Watch it in video

No.

No this is not funny.

Whether or not it is a joke, I’ve gone onto the channel and there are multiple videos similar to this, which makes me think they’re fake.

Doesn’t matter.

These videos enforce the idea to parents that yes, the answer to stop your child becoming obsessed with games is to DESTROY them.

No. This is not funny. It is things like this that cause events such as the father who SHOT his daughter’s laptop to bits to occur. These jokes enforce the attitude that people are ‘wrong’ for loving games.

For wanting to play games.

For some people (including myself), games are a serious escape from horrid realities. The only escape some people can get. The idea that this man (boy?) is wrong for being so upset is disgusting to me?

This is horrific. This is abuse. This is wrong.

This is a sure fire way to get your kids to hate you.

do people not understand how much video games cost?

Video games are a multi-billion dollar business. Some people are good at it. Very good. Do not squander your child’s talents, help them realize them and strengthen them. There are other ways to get your child outside without destroying their games and everything they work for. This won’t solve anything; this will only set them back further.

do this to your childs anything and they will automatically hate you/not trust you

It doesn’t matter what it is

It doesn’t matter if its their video games or if its their smoking pipe

If you just destroy it/throw it away, you are giving no explanation as to why it’s bad/you don’t want them to have it

This can actually psychologically mess a kid up because you teach them that if someone doesn’t like something, they should destroy it

That can lead to some serious problems with socializing with others and other things

dont do that to people

dont

I had a notebook I used to write in all the time. I did that thing that Margo did in Paper Towns where she criss crossed her writing, but I did it so I’d have enough room to write everything. I took it everywhere wtih me and wouldn’t let my parents even start the car unless I had in in my lap. My dad got really annoyed by this and said I needed to throw the notebook away, what was written in it wasn’t important anyway (it was to me, very much so). So one day he took and ran it through the paper shredder.
Ever since I’ve had an intense fear of losing my notebooks and currently have a colletion of 53 blank notebooks and 16 that have been written in because I’ve started hoarding them.
Long story short, don’t fucking do this to your kids. You think it’s harmless and some people even think it’s clever, but you’re really just an asshole and are causing actual psychological problems for your children.

I have a plush rabbit that I’ve had since Easter of the year I was born (I was about 2 months old when I got it). It quickly became a comfort thing for me and I used to go everywhere with it as a child. When my mum and dad split up was when I became kind of dependent on having it around.
If ever I did anything wrong mum always threatened to take it away from me, which obviously caused my 6-year-old self to kick and scream and cry because I needed it.
One day I lost it for 6 or 7 months (turns out it was in my room the whole time but shh it was very well hidden & neither myself or my mum know how it got there)
That was the point that my mum realised she couldn’t threaten to take it away because holy shit I changed so much in those months.

Seriously, if your child is dependent on something, or takes great comfort in having it around
DO NOT TAKE IT FROM THEM.
It does not matter how old your child is, what their comfort item is, if it’s a video games console – don’t take it from them. If it’s their phone – don’t take it from them. If they’re 18 and still sleep with a teddybear – don’t take it from them.

This also goes for if your child is self-harming. If they have a blade in their bedroom and you find it DO NOT THROW IT OUT. Talk to them about it, be as supportive as you can, but do not think “oh well if I get rid of it they’ll be fine”. It can be seriously distressing and also lead to them becoming creative with what they use.

I was given my very first computer when I was about 13 on Christmas. I was so excited, because I’d always wanted to have a computer to myself to play PC games and write and use the internet. Eventually, however, after a year of having the computer, my dad started threatening to take it away/smash it/cut off my internet access because according to him, I was “addicted”. To this day, he STILL DOES THIS. I no longer have that desktop computer anymore, as I invested in a laptop with my own money. Does that stop him from basically claiming the laptop as his property to do what he wants with and threatening to smash it on me so that I would “socialize” more? Nope.

No wonder I have a lot of anxiety problems, folks.

Please do not do this to your children. You can and will create serious problems.

Here’s a more obvious reason why pulling a stunt like this is stupid: those games are worth money. Even if it’s only a dollar or two, that’s still a dollar or two of value. You could sell them all and put that money toward something else. The father might as well have thrown dollar bills down and chopped them up.

If I need to give another reason, here it is: video games are an experience. Destroying a game disc is destroying the chance to revisit that experience. It’s not much different than taking your family photos and torching them.

The core problem is that the parents engaging in this kind of behavior think of computers and video games as purely entertainment. They grew up in a time when their nearest real point of comparison is a television set, which they used primarily to watch fun TV shows and films. They aren’t aware of just how powerful computers and TVs are because they didn’t grow up in a culture that heavily uses them.

In other words, the key to resolving this sort of thing is to make sure the parents realize how computers, video games, etc actually function in our society today, and that it’s much different from the way things were when they grew up.
