Another time, Jack took a call. A voice on the other end said, ‘There are three of us down here in the lobby. We want to see the guy who does this disgusting comic book and show him what real Nazis would do to his Captain America’. To the horror of others in the office, Kirby rolled up his sleeves and headed downstairs. The callers, however, were gone by the time he arrived.

It’s Jack Kirby’s birthday, so here’s that story of him being bad ass all of the time.

True fact: during WWII Kirby was assigned as a scout due to his art skills, meaning that he went in alone and unarmed, ahead of Allied attacks so that he could draw enemy fortifications.

Once he was ambushed by three Nazi soldiers, all of them with guns. He killed all three with a knife he stole from one of them.

Dude was verifiably grade-A stone-cold badass.

And that’s why Jack Kirby was the King.

Random post time.

I don’t include the “Avengers” tag in posts that include Wanda and Pietro. Believe it or not, my reasons aren’t due to liking their association with the X-Men more. I do it because I’ve lost most of my respect for the Avengers franchise thanks to how Marvel is treating the X-Men franchise and Lorna’s relations to Wanda and Pietro as a result of the Avengers franchise.

There was a time when I very much liked the idea of Lorna appearing on Uncanny Avengers. I liked the idea of her joining the book to spend time with her sister. I’ve always wanted her to be more involved in the Marvel universe, but I used to be very open to the idea of seeing Brevoort and Remender (or any other writer on the Avengers side) taking a shot at Lorna and her relations with her family.

The very last inklings of faith I could’ve had in the Avengers side died with Axis. My faith in their ability to do great things and make the most of what they had went on life support when they simultaneously refused to use Lorna in Axis and tried to use Enchantress as a replacement. The Avengers books then proceeded to finish off that faith with the forced retcon of Wanda and Pietro out of the family.

At one point, Uncanny Avengers had Havok give a speech about how he doesn’t want to be called a mutant, because it supposedly represents everything he hates.

Funny enough, that goes for the Avengers franchise for me today. I don’t want to think of Wanda and Pietro as Avengers. The Avengers currently represent everything I hate about Marvel. They represent greed, selfishness, ego, where business goals and vendettas are more important than nurturing good stories and expressing the heart and soul of Marvel and its vast universe.

Maybe 10-20 years from now, we will see a better situation at Marvel, one that will manage to revive my faith in the Avengers side of the company. Hell, maybe I’ll die before that happens. But until that day comes, Wanda and Pietro are not Avengers to me. They are too good for the franchise.

knifeeared:

there should be a scene where Wanda was like “Don’t worry, we know someone who is great with metal who can take care of these robots for us.” And then starbucks and fifteen minutes later, Lorna descends from the sky and Steve or someone is like “Wait, you’re the one Wanda and Pietro called?” and Lorna is like “Of course, who did you expect?”

*throws money at the screen*

I was watching The Daily Show AND THEN SUDDENLY A WILD POLARIS APPEARS.

For anyone out there wondering, this was from her time in space, I believe Kingbreaker.

Her time in space in general wasn’t a good time for her due to character regression and removing her from her biggest driving elements, but it did allow her to spend time with Crystal and Luna where Lorna helped her become “The People’s Princess” (before Marvel forgot they exist), and she got to display great feats of power.

More importantly, this is currently the HIGHLIGHT of 2015 for me when it comes to Polaris appearances… which feels all sorts of wrong.

When Lorna appeared on my screen for this Daily Show joke, I was ecstatic. I was literally saying “Oh my god oh my god oh my god” and paused the video just to stare in awe.

I’m very happy she got this appearance, but then I realized: why am I THIS excited that she appeared on The Daily Show for about 10 seconds for a joke? How is it that Marvel’s use of and appreciation and respect for Lorna are so low that such an appearance means THIS MUCH to me?

I’m really looking forward to Magneto #18 – #20, and what Cullen Bunn does with Polaris and her relationship with her father. His book has been great work since issue 1, and I have a lot of faith in his writing.

After that, I hope Marvel starts to use and respect Lorna and her place in the Marvel universe to the point where a joke on The Daily Show isn’t a strong contender for greatest exposure of 2015 and possibly all the 2010s. I’ll especially be keeping my eye on the House of M section of Secret Wars.
