I agree, there is a lot of problematic content in anime, especially nowadays where the borderline porn anime can be creepier than actual hentai. And what really grinds my gears is how a lot of this content is bleeding over into Japanese games industry as well, because appealing to that minority into the creepier stuff is easy money. Aya Brea, what did they do to you…

baileyartblog:

Yes thank you! I understand there are genres that have inappropriate content, but my main problem is that the inappropriate content is becoming so normalised that it’s leaking into other anime, manga and games! (Not just Japanese stuff too, I’m aware that western stuff is also messed up)

I’d honestly be able to shrug off most of that content IF it was restricted to entirely brand new IPs. It becomes a HUGE problem that pisses me off when it ruins amazing franchises like Parasite Eve and awesome characters like Aya Brea.

It’s even worse with cases like 3rd Birthday. After ten years absence, the next generation doesn’t really know her well, so small number of them just jump on board with games like 3rd Birthday thinking it’s anything other than a horrible insult to the original games and character.

Polaris progress. Sort of made up a costume. Used, like, every reference salarta gave me. What do we think tho? I love Lorna so much. I mean, I literally dyed my hair green for a year to be her. I’m out of practice, but I don’t think this looks terrible? It will be full color and for sale.

I think Salarta gave you some good reference. I love it. I like the fact that she’s wearing a new costume and love her composition. I think she looks beautiful and can’t wait to see the final process.

It’s looking great already. 😀 She’s got a great powerful pose going on here, and the X belt is a very nice touch from the refs. Now all we need to do is create the X gene so you can make your hair do that up in the air wavy thing. 😉

Dyeing your hair green for a year is new news to me! Very cool news too. Do you have pictures of that time, if you feel comfortable posting them?

What is anatomy? Ok. Sketching out the concept for Lorna. But what costume? (not Serval) gonna be selling this when I’m done.

You said in another post that you’re trying to go with one of the green ones, pointing that out for anyone that follows me if they send their own answers. 🙂

Personally, I think the version she’s wearing right now on the Magneto solo is her best version yet. Her headdress looks robust and powerful (not to mention has a definite M shape), the bracers, I’ve always liked the design idea where a a cape is attached to the chest portion and the cape’s weight over the shoulders appears to be what keeps it pulled up against the chest.

Alternately, if you want something similar but want it to be less pantyhose and cape rings on torso, more pants and pauldrons, this specific modification in Kingbreaker during her time in space might be to your liking (she’s only missing her cape in the pictures because she was bound to a table and being tortured at the time).

Of course, both have the approach where you have skin showing on the sides and it’s somehow very close. That seems to be a mainstay for most versions of her iconic costume. I remember you mentioning how that’s difficult to pull off, and a solution you came up with to make that area flesh tone spandex.

If you don’t want to deal with the sides showing, there’s this version that does away with that entirely and goes with belly showing, torso reduced to a top.

There’s also this bit of fanart (no idea on source) that came up with the idea of just making the exposed parts into a lighter shade of green, fitting the leg spandex.

Lastly, if you want a green version vastly different from her iconic costumes with more of a bodysuit approach and no cape, you could do Jeff Parker’s Exiles version of her.

Or you can just mix and match elements. 🙂 I hope these give enough options/ideas to work with! Also I’m interested in buying the sketch when it’s done, unless someone else wants it more than me.

I don’t think anyone wants Lorna more than you. Hahaha. It was gonna be full color and everything. So it will be a little more than a sketch. 🙂 but thank you also for all the help. I love all her costumes, they are (mostly) just variations on a basic theme. This is my problem when designing my cosplay of her. Faithfully recreate one look? If so, which? Make up a new one by mixing all her iconic elements? But which parts are my favorite parts? THE STRUGGLE IS REAL.

I’m also going to do a Pietro and Lorna picture of them in Serval. Because I LOVE those costumes. Lorna will have a power stance. Pietro will have a gratuitous butt shot. Because gender role reversal. >:)

I know of at least one person that I think wants Lorna more than me, but he’s not as active in the fandom community. 😛

I’ve been pretty big on the opinion that 616 Lorna needs to wear some variation of her iconic look in the comics. I think people who don’t really know her that well but might be interested are more likely to recognize her and maybe even buy what she’s on if it’s that iconic costume. She’s at a disadvantage compared to characters like Emma Frost and Storm because Marvel doesn’t let her take part in big events or promote anything she’s in. Hopefully that changes with the new editors.

But, I can also admit that objectively, the Serval costumes did look fine and stylish. 😛 They did a good job of building anticipation for the potential of ANXF’s concept, which I expected to be a lot more focused on internet age issues that the rest of the Marvel universe doesn’t acknowledge or address.

Gender role reversal is fine. 🙂 I think more and more people nowadays actually like content like that for challenging preconceived notions of how culture “should” treat characters.
