please,, give polaris a decent redesign………… im begging u

IMO, Kris Anka provided an excellent potential redesign. It retains enough of her iconic look for her to be recognizable, adds a much-needed secondary color that hints at her powers, and it comes off like battle armor to get at her personality.

Only thing I don’t like of the second version is the Magneto-like bubbles on it.

Kevin Wada also did a fabulous redesign. It’s less like battle armor and more catwalk but I don’t mind.

Objectively, not thinking about the character, I agree that’s a great design and amazing art.

Subjectively, putting it in context of the character, I don’t think it would be good as a new mainstay costume. However I think it would be good as a temporary costume for a story arc, or perhaps for an event with important contextual circumstances. Context is why I was able to begrudgingly accept the ANXF costume on Lorna, after all.

The strange green halo is cool though. No replacement for her headgear, but cool.

yeah I agree (although I hate the headpiece and think it would mostly get in the way). Actually I really like her motorcycle/biker outfit on The Gifted? It’s not fussy, no unnecessary parts, it’s basically function over form with a hefty dose of “fuck off.” The addition of metal accessories for her to control and weaponize if necessary really help. And I think the short hair (in season 1) makes more sense for battle than the gorgeous free flowing locks. PLUS the show outfit is like, something I can see someone fighting in? You’re not gonna overheat in tights, you’ll have something to protect your skin in scuffles, etc. But overall my philosophy is that most superhero costumes need to be less flashy and more functional, and also more low-key so that they don’t need to change for battle, they can be ready to go whenever (except I guess for those like Magneto who are all about making an entrance, or X-Factor when they had uniforms branding them as a government team).

Personally, I think of Lorna more as someone who’s so proud of her mutant background that she’d like to be flashy about it, make an impression.

As for functionality, breathability, weaponizing it, etc, one angle I’ve always loved that would work amazing for Lorna but not as much for Magneto is Lorna using her powers to create her costume. She could be in regular civilian clothes one second, then at a moment’s notice be in full battle gear ready for a fight. She wouldn’t need to go off, change for battle and come back because it would just be a quick rush of metal sliding over her body and it’s done seconds later.

I think it would be as iconic as other cases of heroes “suiting up” have been, like Superman with telephone booths, and Hulk’s clothes ripping as he grows.

They rly tried to shove as much Nazi imagery in this panel as possible huh?

Reasons why this is stupid other than the fact it’s Nazis and Nazis by definition are always stupid, is that Victor Von Doom is a Romani character so why tf would he ever have anything to do with a group known for their heinous acts against his own people???

Exactly. Feel free to take notes on your own characters Marvel

Marvel is blacklisting Polaris

salarta:

I think I’ve seen enough to confirm that Marvel is blacklisting anything having to do with Polaris/Lorna Dane.

Obviously, there’s the fact they have nothing planned for her. It’s her 50th anniversary, there’s a TV show where its idea of her is the most popular character out of all of them. There is no reason for them not to use her.

There’s also this tweet by Gail Simone which to me, gives away that Marvel is shooting down anything having to do with Lorna.

How would a Polaris book be a “hard sell” unless people higher up at Marvel are getting in the way?

But here’s what I consider the final piece of evidence: as they’re reprinting Uncanny X-Men in the 00s, they’re deliberately skipping over the most important issues for her.

In February, they’re reprinting Uncanny X-Men up to #424. This is right before Lorna’s wedding issues.

In December this year, they’re reprinting Uncanny X-Men starting at #444. This is right after her best issues in the entire run.

There’s only one possible reason to have no plans for Lorna, to skip over her essential issues of a run, and for a writer to think it’s not possible to convince Marvel to accept a solo book pitch for her: Marvel has Lorna blacklisted.

And if she reappears as “Havok’s girlfriend” or some bullshit like that, I’m still right. Because that will mean they’ve blacklisted Lorna the actual character. Using Lorna only as a way to promote Havok is not using Lorna. It’s using a plot device with the name and visual appearance of Lorna.

An update to this: earlier today, JDW said Lorna’s not blacklisted, and she’ll be in Uncanny.

I’m thankful for his response to that. It’s good to know that she’s going to show up in Uncanny, and to have words of assurance that she’s not blacklisted. I’m taking his word on both things.

But, I still think it’s a problem that we’ve seen so little of Lorna. Until his tweet today, for all I knew, the big image teaser for Uncanny X-Men we’ve already seen is the only place she would show up. A character on her 50th anniversary, version of her popular on TV, recently used to promote Havok on Blue, shouldn’t be as out of the picture as she is right now. Any other character with this combination of traits would be given a little bit of something.
