so i finished parasite eve and my god that was a wild ride.

the cons (because i’m the type of person that wants to hear the bad news before the good):

• gameplay can get repetitive, i noticed. i skipped most of the bosses once i got familiar with their shape. 
• too little firearm variety, too. 
• i kinda doubt the science of it. although it’s far better than most of the sci-fi movies i’ve seen.
• the regular battles’ soundtrack is kinda unsuitable??? i feel. idk.
• i realize that i will never find fics of this game that pertain my interests. (mainly, aya/eve fics. i searched and i found nothing). it leaves me feeling the slightest bit hollow inside.

the pros:

• original concept and one that could make you doubt a little and wince, because your mitochondria throwing a fit and getting you to spontaneously combust or melt isn’t something that would help with sleeping.
• the transformation sequences are masterful. their graphics still hold up well to this day. 
• the other soundtracks in the game, however, are simply sublime. seriously.
• eve is such a good antagonist. she has flare and grace and creepiness. (i feel her motivation was fresh at the time; doing shit just for the sake of evolution. i can understand that). i mean, i automatically rate a thing higher if the antagonist was a lady, but eve still impressed me despite my bias.
• aya is such a good protagonist as well. she’s both caring and a complete badass with nerves of steel. i empathized with her when she started doubting herself and cheered her on when she started making shit happen. i’m kinda in love with her tbh. 
• the side characters were lovable and developed too, especially for a short game like this. 
• the dynamics between aya and eve are just lovely.

Eve: “You have the ability to evolve! Why take the side of a doomed species?!”

Aya: “If my mitochondria have the ability to evolve… they’ll evolve to get rid of you!”

• not to anyone’s surprise, i ship them hardcore. and apparently, so does nomura.

• good fucking game tbh. i wish it got a remake.
