Polaris comes in at number 16. Lorna is Half-Sister to both Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, and daughter to Magneto. She is lean, mean, and green with her ability to control magnetic fields and some control over magnetism as well. She’s been affiliated with both the Brotherhood of Mutants and the X-Men. Lorna’s capabilities are without bound and that’s what brings her on the list. PLUS, I Know I love to pop popcorn and watch the family drama unfold.
in the tags on one of my magneto + polaris graphics someone was like “marvel should retcon magneto being lorna’s dad” and??? im not sure how that would even work????? like, ah yes look at this young green haired mutant with literally the same exact very specific mutation as magneto…who she is not related to at all. in any way…
I think this has to do with the Claremont era.
Shortly after Lorna’s introductory storyline in 1968 that established her as Magneto’s daughter, there was another storyline that retconned her out of it with some really dumb “That Magneto was a robot all along” plot.
It was after this that Claremont started writing the X-Men. Claremont left the forced retcon intact and boiled her down to largely a status of “Havok’s girlfriend”. I won’t go into all the stuff with Claremont, but the gist of it all is that for a few decades, Lorna wasn’t allowed to be Magneto’s daughter because a forced retcon that didn’t help anything was kept intact throughout what is often perceived as the golden age of X-Men comics.
That’s just one component of resistance to Lorna in Marvel or X-Men fandom that some fans aren’t aware of because they weren’t around when it was at its worst. I wasn’t even around at its worst, but I got interested early enough to see part of it.
Thankfully, most of those fans that were resistant toward Lorna are now either more open to her, willing to let things go as they will, or no longer involved.
