why isn’t every member of the house of magnus considered an omega level mutant?

Like, Magnet Dad and Daughter both have the ability to control possibly every object and anything that has mass in the universe. They’ve said that MagnetDad controls magnetism and anything receptive to magnetism, which would apply to everything in this universe. Like, Iceman is considered an omega level mutant because he can freeze and control water or whatever, why not Magneto and Polaris? While not everything has water, everything is pretty much receptive to magnetism. Like??????

Also Reality Mom and GodSon. I shouldn’t even need to explain. One caused a total of 3 crisis crossovers and one may or may not have subconsciously created his own boyfriend as well as is a Literal god for one of his friends.

Speed and Quicksilver are eh. Like Speed is cool for now, but seeing as how UncleSpeedball has shown that by adulthood he has inherited his dad’s Omega Level Terrorist Mind as well as is an Omega Level Manipulator, those two have endless possibilities, really. And who knows? Maybe Reality Mom gave Speedy some small version of the reality warper abilities she has.

There are a few different answers to that question.

One is that I think Marvel simply wants to put a limit on how many count as omega level, and because Marvel cares way more about bolstering popular characters than what makes sense, they decided Magnus family characters don’t need it compared to other characters like Iceman.

Another specifically for Polaris is that way too many people judge her negatively thanks to how she was written in the 70s and 80s, and the ones who don’t see her powers as “lesser Magneto.” There’s this really stupid artificial perception that Lorna and Magneto’s powers are so specialized that one of them has to be weaker than the other, and because Magneto is more famous, it falls to Lorna to be the weak one. In soft drink terms, rather than seeing Lorna and Magneto as Mountain Dew and Sprite, they see Magneto as Pepsi and Lorna as knockoff store brand.

Despite having no such qualms with both Jean Grey and Emma Frost as powerful psychics, or Wolverine and X-23 as powerful claw-based brawlers.

The easy answer for Wanda and Pietro is that right now, Disney and Marvel are trying to force them into not being Magneto’s kids or mutants (because they’re being egotistical and/or greedy and think this hurts Fox or helps their films somehow). So in that regard, they’d have to be acknowledged as mutants to be accepted as omega level mutants.

Beyond that, it could be the Avengers books wanting to keep the two out of the X-Men in general. If they’re accepted as Omega level mutants, that means they have to be used more in X-Men books, which in turn means the Avengers books have to (gasp) share the characters. Not having an Omega level mutant around for an event that requires Omega level mutants would be bizarre.

And then in Quicksilver’s case, it could be an effort to distance him from DC’s Flash. In some cases, Flash can be even more powerful than Superman, who’s often seen as one of the most powerful characters in the DC universe.

Those be my thoughts. 🙂

Also, Wanda’s powers were mutant AND magic based, and depending on who was writing her, it’s hard to say what limit her mutant powers reached and where her magic took over. So she could very well have been an average level mutant that was just trippin on some hard core magic (and possession. She is usually possessed when altering realities)

Very good point, that’s an aspect I never really thought of before. 🙂

Though realistically, if Marvel actually wanted, she could be considered an Omega level mutant even if she’d be considered an average one without the magic and/or possession in the mix. It really depends on whether we choose to define Omega by being a mutant with a certain amount of power, or having a certain amount of power due to being a mutant. And I think the answer to that one easily flip flops based on whatever motives Marvel has at the time.

An Omega-level mutant is one with the most powerful genetic potential of their mutant abilities. The term was first seen in the 1986 issue Uncanny X-Men #208, but was completely unexplained beyond the obvious implication of it referring to an exceptional level of power. The term was not seen again until the 2001 limited series X-Men Forever. Some abilities depicted by mutants described as Omega-level include immortality, extreme manipulation of matter and energy, high psionic ability, strong telekinesis, and the potential to exist beyond the boundaries of the known physical universe. No firm definition has been offered in comics. Examples of mutants that have been confirmed as Omega-level include Jean Grey,[6] Quentin Quire,[7] Vulcan,[8] Rachel Summers,[9] Iceman,[10] Legion,[11] Elixir,[12] Franklin Richards,[13] and Psylocke.[14]

Evidently you can only be a named omega if your psychic, judging by most anyone on that confirmed list. But by definition Magneto and Polaris definitely make the cut. As would Wanda. And Pietro, when he was tripping balls and ripping through time would definitely make the cut. No reason Wiccan wouldn’t, and Speed can literally destabilize atoms. That shit is no joke.

Ah, thanks for correcting me! I was under the impression Omega level was fairly loosely defined and didn’t bother to actually look up the Wiki article on it, which I should’ve done in the first place.

As much as this demonstrates Marvel should revisit the concept and consider what really counts, I’m sure that’s not going to happen any time real soon.

Charles: Listen to what the Maximoff-Lehnsherrs put under ‘Any Special Requirements’ for dinner.

Charles: “The second generation Maximoff twins will not sit together; the first generation Maximoff twins will not sit apart.

Charles: Luna will ignore you unless your aura is orange; there is nothing you can do to make your aura more orange.

Charles: Wanda must on no account be given alcohol; Lorna must at all times be given alcohol. She will also require the toilet to herself for an hour before the evening ends.

Charles: And, most importantly, Erik will be working under the presumption that you are trying to kill him unless proved otherwise, so avoid approaching him with blunt instruments, sharp knives or hot liquids.” Terrific! How are we supposed to serve him dinner?

Hank: Carefully.

And that’s the Magnus family!

Naomi Hunter did not die in Metal Gear Solid 4.
Nano machines can like heal Vamp after being shot a million times but can’t cure cancer???
Bullshit she’s alive and was lying about cancer cause she knew Snake and Otacon would believe her.

I always thought she faked her death so no groups would continue trying to use her for their own ends, and that most people didn’t consider that likelihood because they didn’t want to really put much thought into Naomi as a character.
