“JUST MARRIED,” Fernando, seated, and his husband, both members of Los Angeles’ Blue Max Motorcycle Club, get pulled over as they leave their wedding ceremony, December 1969. Photo c/o @onearchives. In the mid-twentieth century, the Blue Max Motorcycle Club, along with many other gay motorcycle clubs, provided an alternative to gay bars, which were constantly at risk of police raids and harassment. #lgbthistory #lgbtherstory #lgbttheirstory #lgbtpride #queerhistorymatters #haveprideinhistory (at Los Angeles, California)
fun fact: motorcycle clubs in the U.S. were founded and run largely by gay men who missed the homosocial camaraderie of being in the U.S. military during WWII. the lifestyle and aesthetics of those motorcycle clubs gave rise to many of the stereotypical/classic gay “looks” (leather, chaps, etc) and indeed to the gay leather scene itself (both the gay male leather/biker scene and the lesbian/dykes on bikes leather/biker scene)
OKAY I WORK IN A FABRIC STORE AND ONE TIME THIS LITTLE OLD LADY CAME UP TO ME AND SLAMMED THE INDEPENDENCE DAY ONE DOWN ON THE COUNTER AND SAID, “THIS. THIS IS WHAT OUR COUNTRY NEEDS.”
I had an older man come into the fabric store that I used to work in and dropped 3 bolts of the firefighter one on my counter and said, “I need this. I don’t know what I’m gonna do with it, but I need it.” a man behind him then yelled, “Pyjamas!” and the first man said, “My husband recommends pyjamas.”
I have slight residual interest in Scarlet Witch, Jean Grey, Emma Frost, etc, but currently not enough for me to read books with them that don’t include Lorna. Marvel hasn’t allowed Lorna to be involved with these and other characters enough for me to become interested enough to want to read stuff they’re in without Lorna.
Though in the case of Scarlet Witch, it would also have to be a non-Avengers work. I stopped reading Avengers stuff (really non-X-Men stuff, in all honesty) when Marvel did their forced retcon on Wanda and Pietro being Magneto’s kids.
This is an “I don’t know what I don’t know” situation for me. When people asked me in the past, my answer was always that I couldn’t say because I’m sure the ideal actresses to play Lorna are people I’ve never seen or heard of before. That was true of Emma, and I think it’s true for anyone else who could play Lorna well.
A lot of it also depends on what age and tone are intended for Lorna. The Emma Dumont version is different from what a Lorna in her teens or a Lorna with more of a mature matronly vibe would be. I think Emma fits the version she’s playing, but wouldn’t quite fit a version of Lorna meant to fully embody Lorna from the comics..
