Wait, what’s happening?
The Maximoff Fic Exchange! Do you like the Maximoff twins, be they in MCU, Cartoons or Comics? Then this is the fic exchange for you.
We’re an AO3-based fic exchange with a focus on Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, the characters from Marvel Comics, with a desire to increase the amount of fic for the fandom in a fun, inclusive and accessible setting and to do it without bashing other characters.
When is it happening?
The exchange is running from the 1st of June to the 31st of August, with a round-up period wrapping up on the 31st of October. You can see the full layout of the dates over Here!
Have you done this before? How do we know this isn’t going to fall apart?
We did this last year, and asked participants for advice on how to improve for this year. You can see the collection of fics from last year over Here!
So what are the rules?
There are three big ones:
- Prompts and fics should centre around one or both of the Maximoff twins in any of their canons.
- Fics should be at least 1000 words long, at a minimum – more is always welcome.
- We ask that no characters be bashed and all suitable warnings and triggers be tagged.
Other than those, though… just have fun!
So… can I write or prompt WandaVision?
Sure! Your fic should centre on at least one of the Maximoff twins, but if you want to write about relationships, canonical or otherwise, romantic or platonic, that’s 100% allowed within the exchange!
As we said, we want participants to have fun, provided you abide by the rules and fulfil the prompt(s) you claim you can write just about anything.
How do I participate?
Keep an eye on the blog! We’ll be announcing when Sign-Ups start (1st-9th of June) and when Claims start (10th June onwards). All the information can be found in the About and FAQ on the blog (links below) or on the profile for for the 2018 exchange (link also below).
I don’t want to prompt anything/have anything to prompt, can I still write a fic for one of the prompts?
That’s fine! We had a participant like that last year. Just make sure to let us know and be prepared to grab the prompt you want to fill before anyone else does – non-prompting ficcers get first dibs before the Claims as they don’t participate in prompts.
How do we get your attention?
You can contact us via the Askbox if you have only a short question, message us via tumblr IM if you want a brief conversation, or you can email us at maximoffficexchange@gmail.com if you want to discuss something that’s better explained that way.
You can also @ the blog or get our attention with #maximoffficexchange and #maximoffficexchange2018 if you want to make images or fanworks for existing fics, or share your fic-writing playlists with other participants!

I’m in that mental phase where I’ve suddenly realized all the things I don’t have to be involved in or worry about as a result of not being on CBR. It’s saving me a lot of time I can spend on other things. Posts here, tweets on Twitter, playing video games, watching shows, writing (when I feel up for it and I’m not disrupted), etc.
Public note. I don’t really want to be presented with things about The Gifted, Emma Dumont or Gifted’s version of Polaris unless it falls under one of these categories:
What The Gifted did to Dreamer and everything she had to offer is a massive stain on how I feel about the show. The only good thing I have to say about Gifted these days is that it makes more people aware Polaris exists.
This isn’t to say I’ll never talk about things outside these two categories. But as a general rule, this is it.
I don’t care about interviews, panels, promos, commercials, any of that. I don’t want to see them. All they do is remind me of a show that doesn’t give enough of a shit about its characters to at least do right by them and provide a good send-off if they “have” to be killed off.
The exceptions I make.
If Hell freezes over and they bring Dreamer back, and make up for what’s been done, that I’d want to know about. I’m also more than happy to talk about what could’ve been, what should’ve been, vent about the show’s poor writing, etc.
If the show does something to hurt Lorna, I need to know so I can fight like hell for her. I’ve been a fan of the character for 9 years, well before Gifted came along. That hasn’t changed. I care way, way more about big picture Lorna – the Lorna we’re left with when this show ends. Any damage Gifted might inflict on her in the future (because how can I trust a show to do right by her after how poorly it treated Dreamer’s death) is damage I need to stop or minimize.
If it’s Dreamer or something that’s bad for Lorna, yeah, I wanna know. If it’s not, I don’t care. I don’t care what stories are coming. I don’t care about what interview Emma Dumont had or what she thinks about this or that comic issue. None of that has anything to do with me anymore.

“I have two sisters…”
“And they’re both squeezing me to death!”
Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Great work. 🙂

The page here that involves Polaris is a really good example of how Lorna’s historically had it bad when involved with Havok, how that focus on “she’s Havok’s girlfriend” leads to writers forgetting who Lorna is as her own character and what she can do, and why she needs to be apart from him for 10 years when the current Blue arc is finally done.
The introduction to Lorna is “I gotta be pleasing to Havok.” She then gets ambushed and knocked out by a guy with a metal fist.
This is the sort of thing you would expect to never happen. But it did, cause the focus wasn’t on Lorna, it was on how she could be used as a prop for Havok. Her history with Havok is currently so toxic that even the most basic of basic elements of her character get forgotten or disregarded for the sake of building up Havok.

Polaris @momocon. She made 90% of the outfit from thrift store finds and spray painted everything to get the look. She even MADE HER OWN BOOTS.
Amazing work! Especially with mostly thrift store material.
This is another of Bishop Briggs’ songs that makes me think of Polaris. My current Bishop Briggs song list that I associate with Lorna is:
White Flag
Wild Horses
Dream
Dark Side
