Mutant Makeovers: The 20 Most Shocking X-Men Costume Changes Ever

With this article from CBR, I really don’t care for how it emphasizes the worst bits of Polaris’ past treatment while ignoring the good parts and the circumstances of her costume change. I vastly prefer her iconic costume over the one talked about in this article, but everything else about the article, I felt had the wrong focus.

MORE Interviews The Gifted Cast; Green Hair Promised For Lorna Dane – XMenTV

I’m glad Emma confirmed that Lorna’s green hair will definitely come in, but the uproar and concern over it was always really strange to me. The premise of the show set up well for Lorna not having her green hair at first but showing it later, and the same goes for her actual character history. She started off dyeing her hair to hide the green.

It also wouldn’t have made much sense for Fox to avoid her green hair on grounds that it’s the most visually stunning aspect of her.

Out of companies that own her rights, I’d actually be far more worried about Marvel getting rid of her green hair than about Fox doing it. In a broader sense, Marvel’s been trying to undermine the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises for many years now. Lorna-specific, Marvel’s been sabotaging her opportunities in that same time span. I wouldn’t put it past Marvel to get rid of her green hair in another attempt to bury the character, and emphasize some other character with green hair to try to “replace” her.

Still, I view people worrying about whether or not Lorna will have green hair as a good thing. It shows they care. More importantly, the concern was at such a high point that it led to a need to confirm it’ll be there. The same thing didn’t happen with Blink despite Blink being in the same situation and (as far as I know) not having the canon hair dyeing background of the comics.

Marvel Reveals Every X-Men Themed Jim Lee Trading Card Variant

As expected, the Polaris one is is in her 90s X-Factor uniform.

Marvel didn’t really have any alternative options. Their entire theme here is Jim Lee trading cards as covers, and this was the only trading card Jim Lee drew of Lorna (that I know of). That constraint meant there was no way to provide a cover with Lorna in her iconic costume or a variation of it, which I vastly prefer.

This is good for representation and spread of Lorna. That said, I’m not sure if I’ll buy it or not. I would’ve done so a couple years ago as a sign of support. Now, it’s iffy. The idea of doing it has been tainted somewhat for me by Marvel during Secret Wars. I bought issues of comics even if she was just a small cameo under the same idea and Marvel proceeded to throw her into forced limbo for two years.

Bunn’s X-Men Blue Recruits Marvel’s ‘Ultimate’ Wolverine

Your Secret Empire tie-in brings Polaris and Emma Frost
into the book. Can you talk at all about their dynamics with your team
and your takes on them? Is Emma a villain, in the traditional sense of
the word?

I don’t think anything is traditional about Emma. She is certainly an
antagonist for the X-Men in the series, and she has some dirty tricks
up her sleeve — but I still don’t see her as a villain, really. She’s in
a dark place right now. She has been for some time. I would love to see
her come out of that, but it will take time, and her grief and anger
may be guiding her for awhile.

As for Polaris, I don’t want to say much about her role in the book. Not yet.

In addition to Polaris and Emma, my Secret Empire tie-in
will be bringing several fan-favorite X-characters back to the comics.
Some of them have been gone for some time, some will be changed a bit
when they show back up.

It’s overall smart of Bunn not to want to talk about Lorna or her role yet.

In the specific sense of Marvel comics, he can’t guarantee anything. I’ve pointed out many times before that he said Lorna would appear in the third or fourth arc of Uncanny X-Men, only for that to never happen. Most he managed to do was have Sabretooth talk about how she smells.

Basically, people above him at Marvel can tell him to throw away his own plans and do something else entirely. Under ordinary circumstances, I’d even say there’s a good chance Marvel would force Bunn and Paniccia to back out of using her on X-Men Blue for an appearance, but they made it a major announcement at C2E2. I think that just might be big enough for Marvel not to be able to back out of.

Outside of that, I’ve seen a fair number of people complaining that Fox’s Gifted TV show hasn’t yet shown Lorna with green hair, or said anything about Magneto being her father. There’s only the show’s premise, some teases and one short clip to go on, but some people are already upset based on knowing very little. It might be better for Bunn not to say anything for right now since saying anything could open his plans up to complaints before he could show what he’s doing.

There’s also response to Secret Empire, but of what I’ve seen so far, Bunn seems to be on the wrong side of it. Which is understandable. He works for Marvel. He can’t exactly pop out and condemn his employer. There aren’t many bridges available to burn in comics. In any case, Bunn saying much might slip into the same backlash Secret Empire is rightfully receiving.

The Gifted: First-Look At Polaris Revealed

Corporate Marvel: “Polaris doesn’t deserve to be in <insert major event>, she’s not an A-lister or a B-lister, basically we don’t see her value and probably never will. Why do you think we put her in forced limbo for two years?”

Comicbook.com headline: “A teaser for the new show just came out, and POLARIS is in it! Check it out!”

Corporate Marvel (not to be confused with Creative Marvel) may not value her, but I’m happy to see everyone else does.
