X-Men Is Coming to Television With 2 New Shows

I’m honestly surprised by this news. Very, very surprised.

We heard about a year ago that there were talks for X-Men TV shows. One of the frontrunner concepts heard about at the time was something based on X-Factor. However, with everything Marvel’s done to the X-Men over the past year and the big role for Quicksilver for the coming film, it was expected any TV plans got shelved.

Now, against all odds, it’s actually happening.

To be completely honest, I don’t think I’ll be watching either show unless Polaris is on one or both of them. The X-Men franchise certainly has a lot of potential and promise that doesn’t require Lorna, but she’s the real draw for me. Of course, that can change, based entirely on Marvel’s future behavior.

Still, rare moment where I can say something good about Marvel’s execs. They actually set aside ego and greed long enough to let something like this happen. Hopefully we see more such actions in the future. Restoring Wanda and Pietro as Magneto’s kids and allowing Lorna to interact with them as their sister would be especially nice.

Marvel Still Pissed at Fox, Now Using The Inhumans to Kill Off The X-Men

If Marvel discontinues X-Men, I am straight up boycotting. #NoXmenNoMarvel.

So basically, Marvel knew Wanda causing an end to mutants resulted in people hating Wanda, but they really want Wanda to be promoted in order to “stick it” to Fox, so they freed her of that in Avengers vs X-Men only because they intended to put the weight of ruining the X-Men franchise on the Inhumans franchise instead.

I have a rant here, and I’m not linking to anything I talk about here publicly because 1) I don’t want to contribute to the bad bits, and 2) in the off chance a mod or admin at CBR sees this, I want them to figure out for themselves where the problem is and actually do their jobs.

Even though I…

Update, an admin deleted posts and gave a warning in the thread. It only took him, oh, about 8 hours from when I made my Tumblr post, which is about 10-12 hours before they took any action.

In response to halcyonstarfish, I agree with you. I think CBR is by and large biased in a sense where admins and mods will let things slide for stuff they like or agree with, but act harsher toward anyone they have something against. It’s why I say CBR isn’t a very good gauge for fan interest. I’m not even sure I’d say it’s good for feedback anymore like I used to. If you’re looking for criticism, what you get out of CBR is CBR-approved criticism, not real, full, honest criticism.

That’s not to say there isn’t a need for some gatekeeping, nor that mods/admins at CBR don’t allow any differing opinions at all. I’ve seen the need for gatekeeping in some cases very vividly as a result of GamerGate, and the average person doesn’t want to completely shut themselves out from other views. But as you said, I think their bias gets the better of them.

I’m starting to think it might be better to share news from Bleeding Cool rather than places like CBR whenever possible. Bleeding Cool actually cares enough about these franchises and characters to raise questions and make pertinent observations about both good AND bad corporate behavior.

CBR would never jeopardize their good standing with Marvel by being too critical of the company’s business practices. They rely too much on exclusive interviews and receiving early promotional content.

Sad thing is they had made so much space for younger characters be removing X-men and FF from this picture. And sure, they piut few – America, Kamala, Sam, Miles, Daisy, Skaar, but overall it’s a ton of old, often horribly obscure “classic” characters and nothing else. One Young Avenger, no Runaways (old or new version), no one from Avengers Academy or the Initiative, even Old Loki instead of Kid or Teen Loki. Meanwhile Ego the Living Fucking Planet is here. Because we sure need more of him, right? He has such a dedicated fandom!

And by the way, look, they have literally one gay character in the entire picture.

Fuck, there are few characters even I don’t recognize, like whoever is that guy with a spear between Strange and Bullseye & Vision. Would putting Karolina Dean, Julie Power, Hulkling or Striker be such a problem? You kicked out so many characters to spite Fox, and what you put in their place? Same old shit!

Part of me wants to believe the choices were intentional as an attempt to get the higher-ups to stop being stupid, but realistically, I think Marvel just doesn’t know what they’re doing.

It’s possible the selections were purely scattershot, lazily taking whatever can be found and using it, but it’s also possible they deliberately picked obscure characters because they’re getting cocky. “If we wanted, we could make any character into an A-lister! We’re running things here, the fans should just shut up and accept whatever we say.”

I’m not saying that attitude is definite, only that it’s possible. I think the forced retcon on Wanda and Pietro, treating the X-Men franchise poorly, moving to replace the X-Men with Inhumans, all of that feeds into a strong chance they have huge egos about their control over their IPs.
