Lorna Dane (AKA Polaris) gets angry drunk and takes on the police in X-Factor v1 #260. SHE IS JUST DRINKING (and destroying a bar in the process…but JUST DRINKING)!

This was an issue that turned out much better than I expected when I saw the previews for it when it was coming out. I think of it as one of the positives of Peter David’s second time around with her. Lots of family squabbling coming out of the woodworks, a little bit of how Lorna’s traumatic history has affected her thoughts and behaviors, and a restored link between Lorna and Pietro.

That said, the pool table through window bit still stands out as a bad part of it. Stating intent to show power without hurting anyone, yet potentially maiming/killing three people in the process (two people passing by window, one guy in car that got wrecked) kinda looks bad.

In retrospect, it’s possible Peter David intended for that bit to suggest drunk depressed Lorna doesn’t think through how dangerous she can be. But it didn’t come across that way to me when I originally read it. It’s still a good issue worth reading regardless.
