X-POSITION: Bunn Guides Magneto & Deadpool Into “Secret Wars"Magneto 18 Preview Lorna and Magneto
Next up, Magneto – but probably not the Magneto – has a question regarding the Master of Magnetism’s daughter and, also, his ex-girlfriend.Mr. Bunn. First congrats on keeping the quality high…great twists in #15
and #16. My questions are…will there be any prolonged interaction
between Lorna and Briar?Yes! I’m glad you asked! Briar has a hand in bringing Lorna and
Magneto back together and we’ll see quite a bit of interaction between
the two of them. It will reveal a lot about Lorna’s relationship with
her father, but even more about Briar’s mysterious motivations!Source Comic Book Resource
Really love the feels with that seen.
Looks like they both got really kicked in the groin by the retcon.
As this reblog shows, there was an X-Position with Cullen Bunn about his future Marvel writing, including Lorna’s appearance on Magneto starting with issue #18. I turned the start of lordtimeblogposts’ post into a link to the X-Position, here’s the bits that I think stand out as a Polaris fan.
It seems Magneto doesn’t intend to “go gentle into that good night.” With the universe ending, what does
Magneto have to come to terms with?Magneto is definitely not facing the end of existence without a
fight. As far as he’s concerned, he thinks he can save the world. That
means he has to fight not only for mutants, but for all of mankind. This
entire series has dealt heavily with Magneto’s legacy – how do people
see him and how will he be remembered – and as he faces the apocalypse,
that’s something that will be weighing heavily on his soul.Next up, Magneto – but probably not the Magneto – has a question regarding the Master of Magnetism’s daughter and, also, his ex-girlfriend.Mr.

do you expect us to get a more traditionally villainous incarnation of
the character?I like to think that it will take more than the end of the world to
stop someone like Magneto. That said, I believe there are plenty of
surprises in store of readers. Even if Magneto makes it through to the
other side of “Secret Wars,” though, you can be there will be big
changes in store for him!Magneto’s powers – have they returned completely, as Emma Frost has revealed [hers have] in the recent issue of “Uncanny X-Men,” or are they still broken?
Magneto’s powers are still broken. He’s using MGH to enhance them to greater levels. That said, the challenges he’s facing
are so great that he’s going to need to find ways to increase his
abilities to even greater levels.I would love to see an issue with Magneto thinking back to just how crazy some of the things he did back in early
issues of the “X-Men” were. What do you think is the most insane plot
he came up with? There are so many great Magneto stories, it’s a little hard to
choose. I like the mutate story from the Savage Land quite a bit, but
his plan to use an EM Pulse to knock out all power in the United States
was pretty wild. That was during the “Magneto War” crossover, I think.
Since we already have commentary about all this at the top of this post, I’ll add my opinions to the bottom here.
I’m REALLY happy to see some version of Lorna’s iconic costume return. Many people that know and talked to me during her time on X-Factor know I was not happy with her being in costumes that looked nothing like her iconic one. With Marvel completely unwilling to promote her, she’s dependent on casual fans recognizing her costume to know she’s on something.
I’m also obviously glad to see Lorna get to spend time and have emotional interaction with her father again. During the prior run of X-Factor, Peter David had Lorna throw out a line of “I’ve seen enough of my father for one lifetime,” essentially providing a perfect excuse for her to never interact with him again. Peter David subsequently bridged some of that gap by letting Lorna spend time with her brother Quicksilver and sister Scarlet Witch, but we still needed something like this to really bring them back together again.
During Bunn’s previous X-Position and talking about Secret Wars, some of his comments sounded like Magneto would get killed off after Secret Wars. I could easily see that happening, too; he’s iconic and popular like Wolverine, and Wolverine was recently killed in the comics. It all feeds into how Disney and Marvel are trying to dismantle the X-Men franchise in the comics because they’re dumb enough to think it hurts Fox in any way that matters.
In this one, it sounds more like Magneto may survive, but Polaris might die, and her death may be used to fuel drama for Magneto and worries over his legacy. Please note: I am NOT saying this is guaranteed to happen, and if it does, I am NOT saying Bunn made that decision. The Magneto solo has been excellent writing through and through. I could easily see a situation where Marvel wants to kill Lorna, so Bunn pops in and writes the best send-off he can to at least make her death stand for something more than the typical lack of respect for her we’ve come to see out of Marvel’s execs and certain editors.
Talking about mutates and Savage Land makes me think of Zaladane, and I could definitely see her making a comeback. Unfortunately, I think now is a terrible time for it unless Marvel’s ready to keep all three of his children – Lorna, Wanda and Pietro – as his children and put them to use. I’ve always said that Zaladane would make for an excellent archvillain for Lorna, she could toy with the family quite well, but we need Marvel to stop getting in the way of nice things and let a gold mine of natural development run its course.
That’s all I’ve got for now. This was an excellent X-Position with a great preview for Lorna that raised several questions, and I’m looking forward to Lorna’s appearance.
