Just to be a dick, I’ve decided that the Wanda and Pietro we see in Axis #7, and every Wanda and Pietro we see after that issue, are not actually Wanda and Pietro at all but impostors. šŸ˜€ Does it make sense? Nope! NoneĀ  whatsoever! But it makes more sense than what Brevoort and Remender did anyway, so I may as well go with it.

Well, this is disappointing.

As some of you may know, I cosplayed Polaris’ All-New X-Factor uniform at Comikaze Expo this year.

I LOVE how this costume turned out, and I absolutely loved wearing it. I got a great reception, too! Peter David, Kris Anka, and Jared Fletcher (all people who worked on ANXF) all said nice things about it on twitter, which I was hoping for, but wasn’t sure would happen. Either way, it made me feel good about myself.

The interior artist, and designer of the uniform’s look is Italian artist, Carmine di Giandomenico. He has a Facebook, but we’re not friends. It is all public though, so today I decided to look through his photos to see some of his art. Much to my surprise, he had shared one of my photos on his page!

The comment is all in Italian, so I clicked translate:

So basically, it sounds like he likes that someone cosplayed this costume, but that other cosplayer is going to be better. Now, this is a bad translation, but I’m pretty certain the context is clear, and I am crushed.

For one thing, this cosplayer has not made this costume, so he’s comparing us solely on looks, which is something I have no control over, and so not exactly my fault. Also, why does it matter who is or who WILL be the best cosplayer? This is a photo of me!

I love his art so much, and it hurts me to know that this is how he responds to a fan’s wanting to honor his work. Maybe he thought I would never see it, but it doesn’t matter now. I saw it.

Please take note: What you say in the comments, caption, tags, etc of a cosplayer can and most likely will be seen by said cosplayer.

I wish I could say this doesn’t hurt, but it does.

THIS NEEDS MORE ATTENTION BECAUSE WHAT HE DID WAS REALLY SHITTY and unprofessional

I’m really sorry you got this kind of response, cerebros. I think Carmine just didn’t think through at all how his comment would sound and didn’t mean any harm, but it doesn’t change how hurtful it feels. This is why I try not to judge one artist by comparison to another artist; it hurts their confidence and detracts from valuing their individual, unique creativity.

For the record, your cosplay was absolutely amazing. I don’t like the All-New X-Factor costume being worn by Lorna because I think it detracts from her visual identity, but you did an excellent job of bringing it to life.

Lorna Dane for President

Uncanny X-men vol 1 #218, June 1987

Leave it to Olympic-Level Fuckboy Alex Summers to try and mansplain an insult…

Your daily reminder that Alex Summers ain’t shit… and had the GALL to wear that bandana around his head like some reject from urban-decay 80’s movie.

Alex ā€œI cheated on Lorna twice yet I stilll think I have a say in who she datesā€ Summers

Alex ā€œI actually have no redeeming qualities and needed a character like Lorna to make me seem ā€˜Cool’ and a ā€˜Real manā€™ā€ Summers

Alex ā€œI’m part of the most boring comic book family in Historyā€ Summers

Alex ā€œI’ll manipulate Lorna’s brother to spy on her because I feel as though I own herā€ Summers

I will never not point out that historically, the relationship between Lorna and Alex has been one entirely beneficial to Alex. In its absolute worst depictions, one could argue it was emotionally abusive toward Lorna. When they’re in relationship, it’s always about Alex’s wants, needs and interests, and Lorna is expected to subsume hers for his.

That’s just simple bad character treatment where she’s a plot device, but it’s worse when you consider that the worst cases involve Alex isolating Lorna from anything familiar to her other than him. She left the X-Men because Alex wanted a “normal, civilian life.” She went into space, where Alex was the only truly familiar thing around, because he wanted to lead the Starjammers. When she’s with Alex, it’s rare for her to be her own character with her own needs and interests respected.

I do think the relationship can be salvaged, but I think it’d take a decade apart followed by really serious efforts by writers to make sure they’re treated as equals.

…grown-ups have a hard time believing that ethics in video game journalism is worth sending death threats to a feminist on Twitter. It’s entertainment journalism. It might as well be E!, and the absolute worst thing that can happen is an undeserved game gets a good review or a great game gets trashed. Is that unethical if the opinion of the reviewer has a conflict of interest or has been compelled to do so by a game studio? Sure, of course it is, but that story will never, ever be more important than, say, Felicia Day saying she’s afraid to comment publicly on GamerGate because she might get harassed and then immediately getting called a stupid cunt and having her home address posted.

One of those is a real news story demanding immediate attention, and the fact that so many people chose to double down that the journalistic ethics concerns were of equal weight made GamerGate look entitled, childish, and most of all mean.

Houston Press on why GamerGate failed.Ā There’s lots of stuff in here, but this bit seemed key to what some of the more moderate gamergaters simply never understood, especially the ones who came to it post the ā€œGamers Are Deadā€ articles. ā€œI will start associating with a group which is born of harassment of women because I have hurt feelings about an article I misreadā€ is just not a good look to the rest of the world.

Gamergaters prefer their imaginary sockpuppet women to real ones that might disagree with them. AGC

One of my best friends reminds me of Vivian. She’s making her own video game right now, it sounds pretty awesome.

agoodcartoon, may i suggest looking through #notyourshieldĀ ? you’d be suprised how many people who are minorities or women who agree with gamergate.

wasn’t that the character samual l. jackson played in django unchained?

It’s a good thing #gamergate has #notyourshield to act as its shield.

Seriously, GamerGate is really nothing more than a smoke screen for doxxing, threats and harassment of innocent people. It’s a hotbed for wild conspiracy theories about “collusion” and “SJWs” and the “feminist menace,” as forms of justification for ruining lives.

As for Vivian James, its purpose as a propaganda tool intended to deflect complaints is transparent, and frankly, a lot of GGers wind up unknowingly showing off what their agendas really are with what they make using her. People are not as stupid as GGers want to believe they are.
