what the hell does that even mean? Women are unapproachable???
What?
“…Even the presence of one female in the group will change their behaviour, so that they’ll act differently. So to give the most natural feeling, to make them feel sincere and honest, having them all the same gender made sense in that way,”
‘journey will have the cast adopting what he dubs a “boys will be boys” type demeanor’
“The world might be ready to see the curtain lifted on what boys do when girls aren’t around, when they come out of the tent all prim and proper. That’s kind of the idea behind it… we think, male or female player, that everyone will feel a certain connection and bond with the four characters.”
idk why anyone else forgot to mention the rest of it, because it got more cringe worthy as it went on.
Burn this game
I mentioned this on VG247, but I find that I quickly lose interest in or completely avoid games that don’t have female protagonists in them these days. There’s been way too much of emphasizing male characters and ignore or downplaying female ones, and that gets real boring.
Originally, I wasn’t going to say anything about the “boys’ club” thing with Final Fantasy XV because it actually looks like a Final Fantasy game again after all the non-Final Fantasy stuff that was the FF13 games, but I don’t think I can do that anymore. Backing I know how idiotic Squeenix is, and if FFXV is a success, they’ll interpret it as “We need to keep women out of our games except as sexed up side characters like female Cid” and do that.
I’ve also noticed that we haven’t seen Stella at all in a year. She was being touted as the main female character of the game alongside the main male character, and yet since 2014 (or even before that, since FF wikia is saying the one shown at E3 last year is possibly a different character), she’s been nowhere to be seen. And then we have this woman whose name we still don’t know.
Before all this, I was cautiously hopeful that FFXV might turn out to fix what FF13 ruined. Now, I think if it succeeds, it’ll be fixing one problem just to create an even bigger one. And I think it’s fairly safe to blame this on Tabata’s changes with Nomura no longer working on FF15.
And I’m not going to believe Tabata’s lies if he suddenly comes back and says he “misspoke” or that future Final Fantasy games will have more female representation if FFXV is successful. Squeenix has a culture of lying out the ass when they do something wrong. Case in point, Kitase lied about the game mechanic for “Aya Brea” in 3rd Birthday (note: 3rd Birthday shouldn’t even exist) where clothes rip off with damage by claiming it was about “realism.” You can see how much he lied about that just by looking at how much they tried to sex up “Aya Brea,” and it was even clearer during promo time in Japan. I’ve actually written huge rants (yes, plural) about how sexist and insulting 3rd Birthday is. Likewise, Motomu Toriyama claimed HD towns were too hard to do for FF13 due to too much work, and that the linear design of FF13 was all for story-telling purposes.
Probably because they can’t simply admit they’re all hacks and Hironobu Sakaguchi was the only person that knew how to create an actual Final Fantasy game that doesn’t suck ass. Before Squeenix very likely forced his resignation after The Spirits Within, that is.
I think it’s become exceedingly clear that Squeenix doesn’t know how to make games in their best franchises anymore. They let Motomu Toriyama utterly ruin Parasite Eve, FFX and I hear Front Mission. They horribly botched The After Years. They did an incredibly lazy job with the Chrono Trigger DS port, expected to rake in money for it, and decided to essentially punish fans for not doing so by saying they wouldn’t make a Chrono series sequel unless CTDS sold more. I find there are serious problems with the forced “Tomb Raider” “reboot,” but I’ll refrain for the sake of the rest of this.
Squeenix sucks. Aside from the rare good game they publish from an outside developer (e.g. Nier, what I’ve heard about Life is Strange), or perhaps Kingdom Hearts (I make this disclaimer since I stopped playing with KH1), they’re a bad company. There’s nothing left in it of what made Squaresoft so great.
We’ll wrap with solietaire, who’s looking
several months into the future to ask, “Can you give us any hints about
what’s to come for the X-Franchise beyond the summer?”
Alonso: The X-Men
office is taking the opportunity of “Secret Wars” to build an entire
new world for the characters – to create a shared universe within the
X-books that’s set off by a huge event/incident/surprise. At that point,
they’re going to introduce a new team that feels unlike anything you’ve
seen before. It’ll be… “extraordinary.”
I knew it. Shortly after the rumor mill started about Magneto possibly getting killed off after Secret Wars, I started to really put the pieces together on what they’re doing to the comics.
Disney and Marvel’s purpose in the idiotic forced retcon of Wanda and Pietro into not being Magneto’s kids anymore has multiple facets to it.
One is the incredibly obvious, that they want to repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot by not letting their own X-Men comics gain readers as a result of Age of Ultron.
Two is to ensure that if they kill off Magneto, Wanda and Pietro don’t even have to so much as pay lip service to the fact Magneto ever mattered to them. That’s not saying they won’t pay lip service, but if Magneto was still their father, Marvel would have to spend a lot of time on how Magneto’s death affects the twins. Now that Marvel’s trying to force the idea they’re not his kids anymore, they can ignore his death.
Three was more or less confirmed here: they’re now in the phase of isolating the X-Men franchise to keep it away from the IPs they can make movies out of. As Magneto’s children and characters introduced in the X-Men franchise, Wanda and Pietro were a crucial bridge between the Avengers and X-Men IPs. Retconning them out of being Magneto’s kids means they no longer serve as a link between the franchises. They can segregate and more easily diminish the X-Men franchise.
I’d love to be optimistic and think the post-Secret Wars plans where the X-Men are in an entire new world are well-intentioned. It’d be great if the purpose was to turn things around, treat the franchise with more respect, not make the X-Men beholden to the Avengers IP. Disney and Marvel constantly use crossover events and Uncanny Avengers to hurt the X-Men franchise and put the Avengers franchise on a pedestal. Spinning them off into a separate universe would avoid that.
But if I’m being realistic, I’ve had a front row seat to how Disney and Marvel treat the X-Men franchise for the past half a decade. Companies that behave the way Disney and Marvel have been behaving don’t suddenly realize they should treat their IPs better just because people asked or demanded them to. They only learn when it starts to really hurt their business.
spasticatt said: I giggle every time I open the Polaris Office app on my phone and think,
“Sorry Lorna. Hope you don’t mind me writing down more Romy ideas…”
I notice Polaris used for an insane number of things anymore. That’s the big reason why Lorna isn’t among the top results when searching just Polaris, which is also why I didn’t start part 1 with just Polaris.
But I realize I forgot to try an image search of just Polaris. Did it just now, got promising results, so I’ll be adding that to part 3. 🙂
If Lorna got real promotion from Marvel at any point, she’d be one of the most prominent Web search results of just her codename. I see the fact she doesn’t show up prominently in a Web search of her codename like we see happen with Wolverine, Cyclops, Beast or even Rogue (albeit pretty far down) to be proof that Marvel has yet to give her anything close to a real chance to demonstrate her potential and the interest it would bring.
Welcome to part 2 of me posting Google autocompletes and suggestions for the Magnus family! Check out part 1 for some earlier fun.
Let’s get this started!
You might notice I skipped over the normal autocompletes. That’s because they were pretty basic things like “lorna dane tumblr” and “lorna dane polaris.” I’m only putting up the stuff that seems interesting to me.
And I’d say this is interesting! Again, top results include Wanda and WatXM, but this time All-New X-Factor is big and her tie to Magneto paired with her codename’s there too. The presence of ANXF on the list demonstrates, in my opinion, that a lot of people were interested in and excited about her leading her own team for once.
The weird one is X-23. Lorna’s never interacted with her, so why’s she so big in results? Is it because people want to see them interact? Is it because her playability in Marvel vs Capcom 3 meant Lorna had a shot since the whole “same powers” excuse was no longer valid? Lots to speculate on there.
… And this one’s weird too. Why Mojo? Still, we have Scarlet Witch, further illustrating interest in the sisters.
But you know what I wanna see? I wanna see what happens when I type in…
Well would you look at that! Hit enter and the fact Magneto is Lorna’s father even gets its own special box.
But wait, if Lorna family ties get their own box, then….
🙂 Even Google search isn’t buying the stupid retcon. Same thing happens with Pietro.
Okay, let’s try the other direction.
I put these beside each other because it’s… weird. One is the autocomplete suggestion, the other is alternate search suggestions. Seems like the sole consistent name is Anya.
Image search time.
Both Lorna and Wanda are listed for image search, to be expected. Also, yes, Lorna is now an off-road vehicle. Don’t fight it, you know you always wanted her to turn into a four-wheeler.
Four-Wheeler Lorna is also Wanda’s sister.
This concludes part 2. I only have a few scraps left for part 3 to come.
