Plot Twist Twist Plot: It turns out Pietro and Wanda are Magneto’s kids after all BUT they’re a product of Magneto and Xavier’s minds melding together and so Xavier is ALSO their father!

About Uncanny Avengers

There’s been a lot of reblogs and talk about Uncanny Avengers today, and you can see what I’ve reblogged so far here, here, here and here. There’s a lot of outrage, incredulous questions, and controversy about it.

Here’s my response to all of this: if you’re in charge of a creative IP, you know you fucked up hard when what you’ve done is so blatantly, hilariously idiotic that I don’t even feel like wasting my time ranting about it.

UA v2 #3:

  • ugh, this “coupling” is disgusting. I’m all for it if it will keep his claws away from Wanda, though.
  • but the High Evolutionary watching it lol
  • a world of mini-toasters. Wow. Dystopia doesn’t begin to describe it.
  • oh no, RR started to include Rogue’s accent. He doesn’t work well with that.
  • okay, Wanda’s thoughts here are so OOC. You all know my hatred for the Axis retcon, but Wanda was never that fond of Magneto to begin with, and she barely got close enough to Lorna to really feel this deeply about losing those ties. Pietro thinking like that would make sense, but Wanda has always chosen to ignore her relationship with Mags except when dealing directly with himm. But even worse? That she would question if Pietro is her brother. Wanda doesn’t care about bloodlines, Marvel; even if they weren’t related by blood, Pietro and her have been siblings for as long as they can remember, no retcons would ever change that. Ugh, this whole mess is so stupid I don’t know why we bother trying to make sense of it.
  • great, Magneto is only acknowledged in mockery. This only gets better. *sigh*
  • damn, Acuna knows hot to convey Pietro’s speed!
  • and Pietro carrying Wanda is always adorable
  • suicidal Wanda…
  • “the rest of the team”? Wasn’t there something about this group of people only being assembled with the purpose of searching for the Maximoffs? How would they even know about any team? And why do I act like Marvel gives a damn about continuity?
  • the twins’ WTF faces when they meet their “sister” lol
  • okay, but you see the problem? They said the retcon happened for storytelling reasons, but now they’ll go and make Wanda and Pietro some kind of experiments, or sub-experiments, of the High Evolutionary? Okay, that’s a good enough reason for the first four issues of this book, but what happens next? Because this just means the twins stopped being part of a marginalized group to be part of another, with a much smaller relevance to the Marvel Universe. They stopped having one villain who they actually have had long ties with as a father just to probably get another, but this time a villain they’ve only faced a few times and doesn’t represent anything to them. So, you see, they’re substituting a thirty-years-old backstory with the closest similar they can find, changing nothing except the potential for interesting, emotional plots, and replacing a holocaust survivor with an eugenicist. And they try to convince us this has nothing to do with the X-Men’s legal situation? Fuck you, Marvel.

Avengers #43:

  • okay, if Hickman’s plan is to compete against himself to always top the big moment of the previous issue, I’m not sure I can take whatever comes next. It’s enough that in the latest New Avengers he killed all his interesting OCs + probably Thor, now this?
  • but that monstrosity of a ship vs the Shi’ar was amazing
