revengeance:

Gross-ass gamers will insist that their community isn’t filled with blatant misogyny and overly-violent idiots, but even when the target of harrassment is a man, women are still involved in the threats.

*woman has opinions that men don’t like*

*men threaten to rape and kill her*

*man has opinions that men don’t like*

*men threaten rape and kill the females close to him*

GamerGate people wonder why I’m not buying their bullshit. This behavior is why.

“So, please, don’t call us mutants. The “M” word represents everything I hate! Is what I might say if I was a total sellout. But I’m not, so if you have a problem with mutants you can f### off!”

— Polaris (Lorna Dane)

Got Lorna down pat. 🙂 I’m looking forward to when she’s written as the ardent mutant rights supporter she is, ideally in the coming Magneto storyline including her if possible.

Lorna thoughts #1

I’m going to start numbering these, because I’ll have lots of thoughts in the future, and because we can all laugh when I reach a million. Not tagging because I don’t think it’ll be important enough to be worth it popping up on Tumblr search.

I think with Polaris, there are a lot of writers that see her potential and want to use, but we have editors that don’t see what she has to offer and executives that are afraid she might be heavily used by Fox.

There’s been this pattern since Disney took over where things she’s on, especially promising things, get undermined or canceled, or the writers leave not too long after. I think the reasons for why this happens are all over the place. Some are purely bad luck for her, but others, especially more recent actions, I think are deliberate.

Wolverine and the X-Men and Exiles volume 2, both with young versions of Lorna doing sisterly things with Wanda, were abruptly canceled once Disney took over.

WatXM was just bad luck for her. If Disney only wanted Lorna out of sight, she could’ve been written out of the show. For the show itself, it was clearly Disney’s first step into trying to diminish and undermine the X-Men franchise itself over the film rights issue with Fox. Exiles may be the same problem.

Carey left X-Men Legacy immediately after Five Miles South of the Universe. At the time, he said or implied (I can’t remember which) it had a lot to do with the hostility of fans of Rogue and Gambit as a couple not liking the Rogue and Magneto pairing. Bad luck or no bad luck, not sure.

Then Lorna wound up on X-Factor. The book ran for 7 years total, but it was a year after she joined that it got canceled. Same with All-New X-Factor; it only lasted a year before Marvel canceled it.

I’m not sure if X-Factor getting canceled was purely about sales or partly due to Lorna getting added. I assume sales. But I’m absolutely certain All-New X-Factor was deliberately undermined. Marvel did absolutely nothing to promote the franchise aside from announce its launch, and even did things that actively sabotaged its sales. No Pietro on the cover while Days of Future Past was in theaters. Not only did they not promote ANXF #14 where Lorna and Wanda got to spend time as sisters, they withheld the cover art from the public until it was so late that casual fans wouldn’t be able to preorder in time.

I find myself wondering if the same is happening to the Magneto book. Bunn said a lot about Lorna showing up on the book, but we haven’t seen anything about her since those interviews. It makes me wonder whether I’m being impatient and overreacting, or if Marvel is demanding she stay out of view. More importantly, there’s talk of Magneto getting canceled after Secret Wars. If that happens, I’ll be even more suspicious of the timing.

I don’t know what to make of Secret Wars: House of M yet. It’s great to see Lorna on the cover and actually acknowledged as part of the family like she should be, but with no mention of her in interviews, I need to just wait and see. The cover alone gives me a lot of hope, though.

I’m hoping that the red flags I’ve seen out of Marvel, both with Lorna and in general, are proven to be perfectly fine and I have and had no reason to worry about anything.
