Make no mistake, the ultimate result of Tumblr’s actions will be to break up communities that regularly speak out and act out against fascism.

They can’t ban words.

Follow Anthony’s advice: live in defiance.

And, you know, its not that websites with NSFW aren’t allowed on mobile stores. Twitter, Reddit, and even 4chan all have apps on iOS and Google Play despite hosting NSFW by fully complying with the law and monitoring for child pornography and rectifying the situation quickly and swiftly.

Its that Verizon and Staff do not care to put in that effort. The NSFW purge was an utter disaster, many NSFW spambots still plaguing the website and people who did not violate the terms of service still waiting to have their SFW works account restored.

Its a matter of effort and lazyness, and a misguided idea that this will somehow bring in add revenue. The CEO of Verizon has made his apathy and discontent towards us audible:

“We’ve given serious thought to who we want to be to our community moving forward,” CEO Jeff D’Onofrio says in a blog post. “We’ve realized that in order to continue to fulfill our promise and place in culture, especially as it evolves, we must change…

There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.” (Source here)

They don’t care. You know as well as I do that this isn’t about a large corporation caring about its consumer-base. They know and understand this will anger a large portion of the userbase and result in a severe lack of usage of the site. They uh… they’re OK with that. They’re OK with their new vision being “Let’s make this a Puritan website,” believing it will somehow restore their reputation and create ad revenue (I cannot wait personally to hear the effect on ad revenue, but that’s another story).

Coupled with the fact the wording of this new TOS has been extremely transphobic, citing “female-presenting” nipples to certain rules like… OK? What does this mean for trans men and trans women?

And, at the end of the day? D’Onofrio’s words basically amount to just amounts to a “Fuck you.” That’s all it is. “We know you’re pissed and upset, but fuck you.” Its different than the past, where staff has fucked up constantly and simply remained quiet in the midst of everyone’s discontent and giving automated responses or little lies in support requests. You don’t like this one? Fuck you.

I’m really hoping pillowfort is a good website.

Tumblr bans all adult content, such as “female-presenting nipples”

Tumblr, the mainstream web’s last redoubt for niche smut, is going to clean house. The social blogging platform is banning all adult material on December 17.

Banned content includes photos, videos, and GIFs of human
genitalia, female-presenting nipples, and any media involving sex acts,
including illustrations. The exceptions include nude classical statues
and political protests that feature nudity. The new guidelines exclude
text, so erotica remains permitted. Illustrations and art that feature
nudity are still okay — so long as sex acts aren’t depicted — and so are
breast-feeding and after birth photos.
“Users have a chance to appeal flagged content”

The policy change takes effect on December 17th. From then on, any
explicit posts will be flagged and deleted by algorithms. For now,
Tumblr is emailing users who have posted adult content flagged by
algorithms and notifying that their content will soon be hidden from
view. Posts with porn content will be set to private, which will prevent
them from being reblogged or shared elsewhere in the Tumblr community.

Even the cold dead embrace of a Yahoo! acquision could not end
Tumblr, such was the power of fandom gathered there. But Yahoo never
knew what it owned in Tumblr and was indifferent to its continued
existence. The management of new Yahoo owner Verizon, however, has a
pulse. It knows what Tumblr is and it hates it. It will hack it down
until a perfectly clean advertising- and appstore-friendly traffic
center remains.

That phrase Tumblr uses, “female-presenting nipples”, is darkly comic
given the context of its ultra-woke audience. They didn’t give even the
slightest thought to what people other than lawyers and appstore
gatekeepers might think of it. In that sense, it seems to have a knowing
reactionary air about it. It’s a “go fuck yourself” so perfectly aimed
at Tumblr users it’s almost impossible to believe it isn’t intentional.

I don’t care if you hate horny freaks, we all hate horny freaks. They aren’t going to be hurt by this. Sex workers with increasingly few platforms willing to tolerate their presence will be.

henstomper:

im not gonna like stop using this site or anything but i can pretty confidently say this is one of the dumbest moves ive seen a site make in a while. instead of fixing the actual problems with their website ie pornbots on every fucking post, actual pedophiles, theyre just going to ban everything horny which most likely isnt going to solve those problems and is going to hurt lots of sex workers and artists as well as drive people off the site
