This is for all the people using “feminist” like an insult, and confusing privileged little shithead online bullies for feminists. With all the harassment and cyber bullying Joss Whedon received that help compel him to leave Twitter yesterday, people were quick to blame feminists, and used the offensive term “feminazi” to target only a portion of the guilty party. A huge contributing party were the Gamergate dudebros that felt Joss had betrayed them because he considers himself a feminist. The other portion were rabid fangirls that were mad Joss sunk their “ship” because a romantic subplot for Black Widow is only offensive if they don’t agree with the pairing. If it had been Steve, Bucky, or Clint these immature girls would have praised him as a saint. None of the people harassing Joss were feminists. Joss also had a rift developing with Marvel forcing him to cut his work down and limiting what he could do. With his bosses being jerks, men treating him as a traitor, and women claiming he was a shitty feminist, he felt he just couldn’t win. His movie is breaking world records and he is in hiding instead of celebrating. It makes me sick. Feminists didn’t do this. Don’t use feminist like a bad word. Shitty people and bad fans did this. #JossWhedon #NewThor #LadyThor #Feminist #Thor
When you look at it in the lore they have not made thor a female.
Thor the man is still around its just his not worthy to hold the hammer. Female thor is another female who is worthy to have the hammer and thus becomes thor the hero but thor the man/god is still thor.
#gamergate is a good thing unless you support lying in reviews.
Feminazi is an insult because of the many people who call themselves feminists but dont look at the facts and reality. Feminists are great but feminazis are not.And your right feminism did not cause lady thor the story line did. Thor the hero has been many people and has even been non humans in some comics. Thor the mangod is still there its just in this upcoming movie or whatever it will be the mangod will only be a man god and the mantle of herothor is taken by a female
Feminazi is OFFENSIVE because it belittles the suffering of the people at the hands of the Nazis by comparing immature whiney internet dudebros and their hurt feeeeeelings to the suffering and death of millions by systematic genocide.
Having your opinion challenged by a feminist is NOT the same thing as having your humanity stripped from you and your people irradiated from Europe.
That is why saying “Feminazi” is offensive.
And this post wasn’t actually about Lady Thor, it was about shitty fans harassing Joss Whedon because they didn’t like a few things in a movie. I only used Lady Thor in the image because 1) I am her, and 2) she is quoted there saying “that’s for using feminist like a four letter word” while punching a jackass in the face, which was the topic of my post. People acting like being a feminist is a bad thing.
Well Feminazis have killed the feminist movement and i think this will be the last iteration in a while.
and using the term Feminazi is not offensive in any way because of the simple fact that not all nazis were bad and that they were just brainwashed soldiers.
When bringing up Nazis it does not instantly bring up the holocaust.I will kindly stop using the word “Feminazi” when a holocaust survivor takes offense to it.
The lady thor thing was brought up because it is slightly behind the uproar silly.
Feminazi is the same as grammar nazi. It is just a simple word that i will only understand hurting people if Nazis have effected them directly.tiny-tyrant a little help here? I’m at a loss for words with this level of dumb.
Honestly, anyone wanna tag in? I need to sit here with my forearms on my knees and shake my head for a year.
Nazis were human and I’m sure as per human behavior not all were bad. But as a Jew. As a person who is directly related to holocaust survivors. As a person who spoke to them and heard their story. As a person whose family is fucking nearly nonexistent because of the Nazi movement I would say the term Femnazi is inappropriate.
Femnazi puts an inherent negativity on Feminism and it is misogynistic in nature. It also belittles my family’s suffering and deaths, and those families of so many others.
As someone who is speaking up for my now dead holocaust survivor relatives, as someone who knows that almost every holocaust survivor has died I ask you to listen to peppermonster, and to anyone telling you this is inappropriate.
And I’m sure that littlegoythings and other distinctly Jewish blogs would probably have similar things to say about the term.
Is that good enough? Or are we going to have to do some necromancy for you to get your head out of your ass?
Well spoken.
I repeat: It’s offensive to women to be compared to nazis. It’s offensive to the victims of the nazis to have their experiences belittled to a /difference of opinion/. Nazis didn’t simply have a difference of opinion as Jews as to wether or not Jews were people and should be allowed to live. To compare feminists to nazis, even the worst examples of feminists, is misogynistic and makes the movement into something comparable to nazis. I find it disturbing that you can argue “not all nazis are bad” giving them arguable room for sympathy, but have such a low opinion of the feminism movement. Almost like feminists are worse than nazis in your eyes. I find that problematic in so many horrifying ways.
Oh dear god, GamerGaters still trying to bullshit that GG was ever actually about games journalism.
GamerGate is and always has been about attacking women, with a lower tier effort at attacking men who support them. Conspiracy theory after conspiracy theory is concocted to justify that kind of behavior and the underlying intent of ruining the lives of targets. In GamerGate’s eyes, if a woman received a bomb threat, she either lied about getting a bomb threat or faked it for attention.
According to GG, if there are bullshit accusations made by an abusive ex-boyfriend that his ex-girlfriend slept with several journalists for good reviews, then not only should the account be immediately taken as fact, but the one person involved who isn’t a journalist is the one that deserves to have her life ruined moreso than anyone else.
That’s just the surface stuff. I could go for paragraphs upon paragraphs about every single terrible thing I’ve seen. And when it comes to gaming matters beyond the “ethics in games journalism” bullshit line, GGers have taken stances that only someone who hates the gaming industry would take. These aren’t murky subjects that are open for debate, GGers have supported things nobody that actually loves and appreciates games would support.
I was there when the majority of GGers were proclaiming that Jack Thompson was better and more reasonable than Anita Sarkeesian, just because he said what they wanted to hear. This is a guy who ACTUALLY wanted to ban all video games, that everyone knows made up all sorts of lies about the industry and its effects. Not only were GGers going around claiming that not only is he better than a critic that isn’t calling for bans at all, but many even went so far as to claim Jack Thompson was simply misunderstood, and justify supporting Jack Thompson with “But he means well” while acting like Anita is some hateful monster straight out of the bowels of Hell itself.
When the matter of GamerGate ruining research tied to gaming in academia and preservation came up, a hell of a lot of GGers went around proclaiming that’s somehow a GOOD thing. Anyone that cares even a tiny bit about the gaming industry wants to see it preserved, wants the culture and important points within it to be available for future generations. People that love gaming want researchers to be able to study its benefits, like how it can help people that need therapy. And here were GGers, ecstatic that academia was not willing to fund studies and projects tied to gaming because of “feminist” and “liberal media” bogeymen.
If GamerGate had actually been about problems with games journalism, I would’ve been all for it. There have been a lot of problems over the years. I could even cite some not one person has ever mentioned. But GamerGate is not about games journalism, and it’s ruined almost any chance in hell of having any issues with games journalism addressed in a real way. Why? Because GamerGate has created an environment where you can’t point out such issues or else you’ll be encouraging a hateful mob to completely ruin someone’s life, most likely a woman’s life.
As it is, GamerGate only says they’re about “ethics in games journalism” because if the “in games journalism” part is left off to more accurately reflect their real purpose, it’s even more obvious GamerGate is a load of bull. “Crimes against ethics” is just a flimsy excuse for attempts to ruin the lives of entirely innocent people GGers have decided to collectively hate. For Zoe Quinn, her “crime against ethics” was made-up stories about sleeping with multiple guys; she’s the only one GGers really care about attacking. For Brianna Wu, a game dev who’s not anything close to a journalist, her “crime against ethics” was making fun of GamerGate. For others like srhbutts, who also isn’t a journalist, her “crime against ethics” was pointing out when GamerGate is being terrible, which GG routinely claims is all lies.
GamerGate is a hate campaign. It would have been nice if it had been created for the actual purpose GGers pretend it was created for, but unfortunately, that’s not what happened. I look forward to the day when we can talk about such issues for real; probably a good decade from now at this rate.
