Highlights all X-Men and their first appearances up to 2015, when the video was created. You’ll notice that Polaris is included in the preview still. Made by IGN.

Noteworthy detail for the narration: they introduced Polaris first (exactly matching comics chronology) and introduced Havok as “her man,” instead of the other way around that you often see from stuff by @marvelentertainment itself.

Time for another installment!

What Can Polaris Do?

Watch the video! It’s fun!

In this video, we see a very intricate almost Rube Goldberg like contraption that uses magnets. It makes use of multiple very interesting principles: magnetic objects interacting with non-magnetic objects, magnetic fields pulling other susceptible objects barely enough to make them swing, balls linked by magnetism blocking smaller objects but breaking up for heavier objects or ones with more momentum.

That’s my rundown. Now I’ll go into what I feel this demonstrates in terms of how Polaris could use her powers.

The most obvious is creating a similar contraption. With such a contraption, she could create something in advance that she could then set off during a fight with minimal work (”simply set the ball in motion”) to do the job for her while she focuses on fighting and protecting herself. Say, for example, a device prepped to release multiple nets to capture multiple enemies in succession, or time blaster shots for when a powerful enemy would’ve recovered from the last one.

The next, and I think far more exciting, feature is its use of non-magnetic objects alongside magnetic ones. Think of it like the magnetic manipulation equivalent of not expecting a sword wielder to throw a punch. If Lorna’s fighting an enemy, they’re going to assume that any use of her powers will be direct – that she’ll use only things she can directly manipulate. They may not expect her to, say, create and launch a cannonball into a pillar that breaks and causes a chandelier to drop from the ceiling onto her opponent. That is a very simplistic example; a more complex one may be hitting a non-magnetic ball with a magnetic ones enough to make it bounce around and ultimately hit her enemy.

Lastly, the notion of a string of magnetic beads able to keep out lighter objects but break to let heavier ones in could work well. She could create traps that capture only the heavier enemies. She could create a “gate” that effectively splits teams so that she can take out the stronger, more powerful ones before having to deal with the smaller ones – say, if she were up against the Avengers, to fight Hulk while forcing Captain America and Hawkeye to wait outside.

Of course, none of this is even taking into account the idea of Polaris actively magnetizing metal, allowing her to have it all set up without even needing to directly affect what she’s already magnetized.

That’s it for this one! If you’ve got videos, articles, pictures, etc that could work for one of these articles, feel free to send them my way! Or better yet, do a write-up of your own!

llego-el-general:

Here I’ll introduce you to my autistic niece, Victoria and how a 6 year old loves Lorna Dane aka Polaris from the X-Men. She loves Lorna and the color of her hair and clothes. She already know very well who is this character. She has a Barbie doll where her mother (my sister) dyed her hair green and bought many green clothes for her doll who she named Lorna.

This video was taken in her grandma’s house who just moved in recently. My cousin was recording while babysitting her and send me this heartwarming video since he knows I love X-Men. My beautiful niece is autistic who is afraid of costumes. She don’t like wearing them for Halloween and she gets scared when she sees people wearing costumes (you know, like creepy costumes lol). I thought this was something big and emotional to me since my niece, who is so young, started to like the X-Men and her favorite is Polaris. Funny how few people out there are pretending not to know Lorna when this 6 year old girl knows who she actually is and where she’s from. Autistic children are smart and that’s what makes them different. Please share and thank you!

This video is so precious. I never thought I’d see something like this, and it’s amazing that Polaris is reaching kids on this level even without Marvel giving her a proper platform. I hope this encourages Marvel to recognize what they have, what Lorna means to many people, and provide more representation.

For some reason, I feel like this is the closest to a “theme song” for Polaris I’ve found so far.

Right now, I think it might work best as a perceived Polaris x Iceman theme, based on the lyrics. “There will be no future tense” and pulling away could reference no chance of a true romantic relationship for them, especially since Bobby is gay. Lorna’s a very tragic figure, while Bobby is usually very upbeat and friendly. That gives the light, joy, pain and shame parts. The “set fire to the house” bit plays very well with its being opposite to Iceman’s powers.

In other words, I kinda like imagining this as a song about them. It gets my thoughts running on how they could be written together even without being romantically involved.

Including lyrics to the song in the cut below in case anyone wants them.

i’m not in love
i’m not in love
and there will be no future tense for us
i cannot lie
i know it isn’t right to want you
most of the time
i stop myself from trying to touch you

i’m magnetized
i’m magnetized
i’m magnetized
i’m magnetized by you

you bring your light
i’ll bring the pain
you bring your joy
i’ll bring my shame
i want to kiss the scar that rips your shoulder
get so close that it hurts
but every time i feel us growing closer
you pull back

i’m magnetized
i’m magnetized (i’m magnetized by you)
i’m magnetized (i’m magnetized by you)
i’m magnetized
there’s nothing i can do
it’s all a fantasy

i would risk everything
set fire to the house
pack my bags and walk out
but would you want me to?
if i was free?

i’m not in love
i’m not in love
i’m not in love
i’m not in love

i’m magnetized by you
i’m magnetized

there’s nothing i can do
it’s all a fantasy
