Ok, learning about how Lorna was only put in the show just to be a love interest is so beyond disappointing and offends me on every level. The fact that he said she “emerges as a central character” for the series is nice, but the disrespect Nix showed my badass mistress of magnetism is unforgivable. Do y’all have any idea how long some of us have been waiting for a live-action Polaris? And we finally get her only to find out Matt Nix added her to, originally, serve no other purpose than as the love interest for some racist stereotype character he made up like ??? Fuck off with that bs

A little addendum.

Of what I’ve seen thus far, what you’re describing was Matt Nix’s original plan. Of what I’ve seen, his actual plan today is much, much different from where he started, and very strongly mirrors what happened with Chuck Austen.

In Chuck Austen’s original plans, he was going to have Polaris and Havok marry and then ditch them. Instead, he changed his plans and ended up writing what’s probably the best Polaris to date. Austen went from “Polaris is just Havok’s girlfriend” to Polaris as a badass powerhouse with mental issues and a strong philosophical core.

Obviously, I don’t know what’s going to happen with Gifted. Maybe it’ll be as bad as your post implies. But neither Fox nor Nix have the history of poor treatment toward Polaris that Marvel and various Marvel writers have demonstrated over time.

Given that and how things went with Austen, I’d say it’s best to give the Gifted version Polaris a chance first. For all we know, the show might end up with the best version of her that will ever be made.
