Fun with Google autocompletes/suggestions, Magnus family edition (pt. final)

Welcome to what is currently planned to be the last part in this series! Part 1 and part 2 here.

I skipped over a search with just “Polaris” before because the Web autocompletes were all for other stuff like four-wheelers. However, if we do Image Search…

image

In case you can’t see it well enough, the image search suggests Marvel and X-Men to narrow the search so we get Lorna out of a Polaris search. Before that, it’s about the star and a generic “logo” search, which applies to tons of things.

We continue!

image

Seems a lot of people immediately want to know more about Magneto’s daughters when looking into Quicksilver. Also, Days of Future Past is a much bigger deal in terms of Magneto’s son than Age of Ultron. Last one’s pretty much a given.

This is where I reiterate that this is not exhaustive. I’m only doing the ones that interest me personally. So I could do searches of Quicksilver or Pietro Maximoff, but while the search results would definitely interest fans of Pietro, I didn’t feel like taking the time to screencap and post them. I urge fans of the characters I skip to do their own more thorough autocompletes. 🙂

image

What I really like here isn’t only that interest in Lorna and Wanda as sisters is highlighted here, but that Pietro is acknowledged too, and the idea of Lorna and Wanda fighting is also in there.

image

And same here, except it doesn’t do “brother and sister” or “sister and brother” or any of that. It implies just how much interest there is in the sisterhood.

image
image

I skipped the ones of Wanda and Pietro since they don’t mention Lorna, but one search of them focuses on the forced retcon, another highlights how they’re Magneto’s kids. I like these, though, because they continue to highlight how important the sibling dynamic is that just the name “Lorna” combined with Wanda or Pietro pulls in suggestions for the third sibling.

image

I didn’t add this to the last post, but yep, it acknowledges Lorna as Wanda’s sister in the autocompletes here too.

image

Highlights that when we look at Wanda interacting with the X-Men, the focus is on 1) the Fox film, 2) her status as Magneto’s daughter, and 3) the last real X-Men cartoon Marvel’s put out, which had a dynamic with Lorna.

That last one, about WatXM, is extremely important. X-Men: Evolution lasted longer and arguably had a bigger role for her. Theoretically, we could say WatXM only comes up because of how recent it is, but we saw in a previous part that one of the image search suggestions for Lorna is X-Men: Evolution. So it’s not just how recent it is that matters.

People like her role on WatXM, and aside from her dynamic with Nightcrawler, her dynamic with her family was a huge part of her use.

This concludes my series on Google autocompletes/suggestions for the Magnus family. Perhaps I’ll try other terms I missed or skipped some time in the future. Maybe I’ll retry searches to see how they’ve changed. For now, this is the end. I hope it gave a lot of food for thought. 🙂

Fun with Google autocompletes/suggestions, Magnus family edition (pt. 2)

Welcome to part 2 of me posting Google autocompletes and suggestions for the Magnus family! Check out part 1 for some earlier fun.

Let’s get this started!

image

You might notice I skipped over the normal autocompletes. That’s because they were pretty basic things like “lorna dane tumblr” and “lorna dane polaris.” I’m only putting up the stuff that seems interesting to me.

And I’d say this is interesting! Again, top results include Wanda and WatXM, but this time All-New X-Factor is big and her tie to Magneto paired with her codename’s there too. The presence of ANXF on the list demonstrates, in my opinion, that a lot of people were interested in and excited about her leading her own team for once.

The weird one is X-23. Lorna’s never interacted with her, so why’s she so big in results? Is it because people want to see them interact? Is it because her playability in Marvel vs Capcom 3 meant Lorna had a shot since the whole “same powers” excuse was no longer valid? Lots to speculate on there.

image

… And this one’s weird too. Why Mojo? Still, we have Scarlet Witch, further illustrating interest in the sisters.

But you know what I wanna see? I wanna see what happens when I type in…

image

Well would you look at that! Hit enter and the fact Magneto is Lorna’s father even gets its own special box.

But wait, if Lorna family ties get their own box, then….

image

🙂 Even Google search isn’t buying the stupid retcon. Same thing happens with Pietro.

Okay, let’s try the other direction.

image
image

I put these beside each other because it’s… weird. One is the autocomplete suggestion, the other is alternate search suggestions. Seems like the sole consistent name is Anya.

Image search time.

image

Both Lorna and Wanda are listed for image search, to be expected. Also, yes, Lorna is now an off-road vehicle. Don’t fight it, you know you always wanted her to turn into a four-wheeler.

Four-Wheeler Lorna is also Wanda’s sister.

This concludes part 2. I only have a few scraps left for part 3 to come.

Fun with Google autocompletes/suggestions, Magnus family edition (pt. 1)

I decided to have a little fun this morning running Google searches of the Magnus family, mainly Polaris. Then, I saved them. Not the entire search results, only what Google suggestions for autocompletes and terms near enough to be relevant. A lot of times, you can run the search, hit enter, then click on it again (sometimes backspacing and re-adding letters) to get an entirely different list of suggestions.

It gave me some interesting material. This is part 1 because I have a lot to show off. This also is not exhaustive, you’ll want to do your own for ones I skip.

Here we go!

image

Right off the bat, we have interest in Lorna in films, and Lorna in Uncanny X-Men, which could mean either the Days of Future Past mobile phone game or her time as a core member of the team in the early 00s.

Then we try clicking back on the search bar, and it gets interesting.

image

This time, she’s most known for X-Factor, but now her sister is a big element, even more than Havok, the character Marvel had her always following for about 3 decades. Once again, Days of Future Past is up there.

Next, an image search!

image

For suggestions, we have the usual suspects like costume, X-Factor and Wolverine and the X-Men. Days of Future Past is also slightly expected due to the little girl hinted at being Lorna in deleted scenes. But what’s really interesting are the X-Men Evolution and Movie ones. She was never in X-Men Evolution, so clearly a LOT of people think she should have been. The movie one probably just means any X-Men movie, but it’s interesting to see there are a lot of mock-ups to the effect of her not just being in it, but being a major figure.

Let’s try Polaris Marvel.

image

It gives us… domino? And silver samurai? The hell? But we also see that Scarlet Witch is on here, as is Magneto, but Wanda’s higher than him.

To the image results!

image

These results are a bit more expected. We can see there’s a huge cosplay interest in Lorna. It’s fascinating her Lego playable is on here since it’s only an unlockable with the same power set as Magneto. BUT, it was also the very first game to make her playable, and the only two games before it to include her had her as nameless background decor.

The really notable thing here is Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver on the end. Lorna’s spent way more time with Havok over her long character history, and more time with Magneto than Wanda, but it’s her brother and sister that get on the image search, not her father and ex-boyfriend. It really shows there’s a hell of a lot more interest in the Magnus kids interacting with each other on Lorna’s part.

Stay tuned for part 2! Whenever I get to it. 🙂
