I always headcanoned an unseen scene in which Rosa, tied up below the scythe/giant metal ball, defiantly told Golbez that she knew Cecil wasn’t going to risk the security of the world for her life. And that later, the look on her face when Cecil and co. bust in could only be translated as “oh FFS.”
I wish I had more coherent thoughts about Tellah’s decision to cast Meteor against Golbez at the expense of his own life. It’s such a Tellah thing to do—he was driven purely by the thought revenge since Anna’s death—and even though there’s a sense of senselessness in the way he goes down, it somehow also has an aura of purpose. Meteor doesn’t bring Anna back, and it doesn’t quite avenge her, either, but it does weaken Golbez and knock some sense back into Kain.
Speaking of Kain, everyone sure is awfully quick to welcome him back into the fold. Maybe it’s because I’ve played this game more than enough times to know what’s coming (and/or because I’ve read too many espionage novels) but NO ONE ASKS ANY QUESTIONS.
Personally, I always figured part of Rosa being at peace with being abducted was knowing Cecil would figure it all out as long as he’s alive.
To my knowledge, Tellah was the first in subsequent pattern of a single playable character sacrificing themselves for the greater good. Afterward we got Galuf, Leo and Aeris. Then after that kinda morphed into having a temporarily playable character that was or becomes an enemy (Seifer, Beatrix, Seymour). It’s interesting to see the patterns in the franchise pre-Squeenix while Sakaguchi was around play out.
I can kinda see Rosa and Cecil welcoming Kain back easy cause of their history and trusting natures by that point, and possibly Cid due to same history, but I agree that it’s weird nobody else has any issues. Maybe Yang has an excuse of having been brainwashed himself. Didn’t Edge call Kain out the second time?
