Lauren’s powers.
Just my speculation
I was thinking this: Lauren’s shields manipulate elements. She’s said herself before that she can push the air to get her to form shields. So technically if she pushes it together to form a concave shape to bind molecules together ( which is her technically bubble wrap shape shields, with the air molecules curving outwards), why can’t she push it the other way round to make it convex. Because since these air bubbles are solids (they reflect bullets and man, that truck), they may be able to reflect light, and act a little eventually like that mirage boy’s powers. She can reflect and manipulate what people see with her binding of air molecules but of course, unable to make mirages. But it’ll be effective if they ever get caught in something like what Andy, Reed and Marcos nearly got caught in in the truck.
She’s already able to manipulate the shields to take on a convex shape momentarily—with the bowling pins
But for that to happen, she’d need lots of concentration which—YAY! Lorna’s training is probably gonna focus a LOT on. (“You just need to focus. Don’t think about anything, forget about everything but the target.” And “Dig Deeper.”)
And also, credits to @phoenix for thinking about this when I talked about Lauren’s powers with him 😂 Maybe Lauren can eventually manifest her bubbles in random areas to redirect Marcos’ powers or make it a even stronger laser.
And hey, Lorna already says that Lauren and her brother are waaaay stronger than most mutant powers. So what gives? XD
My headcanon is that Lorna had Lauren use her powers for a “ramp” for the semi to a) give Lauren ideas of creative uses for her powers, and b) to have her push/test her power’s limits.
Lauren could have done the simple work of providing a barrier to stop bullets. Lorna herself could have probably lifted the truck (like she moved police cars with ease in episode 1), or similarly created a ramp of electromagnetic sorts. Instead, in my mind, Lorna turned it into a teaching moment. If Lauren somehow couldn’t handle it, Lorna could’ve taken over. Knock guns out of officers’ hands and do the heavy lifting.
