From @temperatezone:
I’m glad you’re so optimistic about her importance in the show. After spending a week thinking about the trailer, I’m 99% convinced she’s being set up as The Girlfriend: a 5 minutes badass introduction followed by her capture and need of rescue. The romantic subtext between her and Sean Teale’s character in that last bit of the trailer doesn’t help. I hope you’re right and I’m wrong, though.
Though it doesn’t hurt to be prepared, I hope you’re wrong as well.
I could see Lorna being a romantic interest for Eclipse, and vice versa. However, I hope that doesn’t cause her to be “The Girlfriend” – which is a major problem I’ve had with her past treatment when paired with Havok.
The ideal situation would be one where Eclipse wants to rescue her not just because he personally cares for her, but because she’s powerful and essentially serves as their leader. Akin to Mystique breaking Magneto out of jail.
I do think the trailer attempts to spotlight Lorna in the start and end as an acknowledgment of how much interest and potential there is in her. The question becomes if that remains steady or gets sacrificed to benefit Eclipse. The latter is what happened in the comics. She started as a badass, then the writing took a nosedive into treating her as primarily Havok’s girlfriend.
For my part, I’m going to put trust in Fox for now. Unlike Marvel, Fox hasn’t done anything to make me doubt their intentions.
