I wanna say something on this real fast. I’m a guy, so bear that in mind in the context of my post.
A cover was altered to cover up Madelyne Pryor’s underboob.

Frankly, I don’t think Madelyne Pryor needed to have the underboob covered up, given her character.
My priority has been primarily on whether or not something fits the character. This is why I complain loudly about things like the Joker variant of the Batgirl cover, about how 3rd Birthday ruined Aya Brea by reducing her to a fetishized sex object with a horribly sexist depiction, many many more cases out there.
But on the flipside, I’ve also seen complaints about things that I think fit the characters, so I don’t advocate changes like others do. I’m perfectly fine with, and enjoyed, both Juliet Sterling in Lollipop Chainsaw and Bayonetta in… well, Bayonetta. I have no problem with those characters existing as the hypersexual parodies they are because they were created to be that way, it’s part of who they are. Bayonetta, I feel is especially the type that owns her sexuality and uses it as a weapon. I also feel perfectly fine with Power Girl’s boob window, and think the only real problem there is the purpose given to it. So many contrived explanations about “filling holes” or as a distraction, when I can easily see an explanation of taking pride in her body and owning her sexuality in a culture that tries to shame women for doing so.
I think Madelyne Pryor fits in the latter case. She’s established that as a part of her identity, and it makes sense for her to continue to keep that as such. As someone else said, I think altering the character’s wardrobe on a cover like this essentially sends a message of “if you’re the type that likes to dress this way or would want to, you’re wrong for doing so.”
The Spider-Woman cover was a problem because it trivialized her value and worth as a superheroine as mainly being about her sex appeal. There’s no such risk here, especially since Madelyne is sitting on a pile of defeated foes which demonstrates her power.
Aaaand that’s all folks. 🙂
